head­space Cairns (under the direc­tion of the RFDS (Qld) Ser­vices Lim­it­ed) is an inno­v­a­tive youth ser­vice, deliv­er­ing pri­ma­ry and men­tal health, alco­hol and drug ser­vices, edu­ca­tion­al and voca­tion­al ser­vices to young peo­ple aged 12 – 25 years. 

head­space Cairns con­tin­ues to expand its pro­grams to include a high fideli­ty Dialec­ti­cal Behav­iour­al Ther­a­py (DBT) team for young peo­ple (to be deliv­ered in part­ner­ship with Queens­land Health). head­space Cairns is now seek­ing an expe­ri­enced Senior Men­tal Health Clin­i­cian to con­tin­ue to deliv­er this well estab­lished program. 

The Senior men­tal health clin­i­cian will be a part of the head­space team to deliv­er the DBT pro­gram in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Queens­land Health and will con­tin­ue on with the pro­grams devel­op­ment, imple­men­ta­tion and eval­u­a­tion. The role will involve the pro­vi­sion of indi­vid­ual ther­a­py, group ther­a­py and some out of hours phone coach­ing in con­junc­tion with week­ly con­sult meet­ings in line with the gold stan­dard DBT model. 

Where eli­gi­ble, options also exist to engage in pri­vate prac­tice. This role would be part-time in order to com­pli­ment work with­in oth­er areas. 

The pre­ferred can­di­date will have expe­ri­ence in DBT or train­ing in the mod­el, expe­ri­ence work­ing with peo­ple with bor­der­line per­son­al­i­ty dis­or­der and group work. A min­i­mum of two years men­tal health expe­ri­ence is essential. 

The Role:

  • Fixed-term Part-time 2 days per week (0.4FTE) until 30 June 2020 with poten­tial exten­sion based on funding.
  • Under­tak­ing com­plex holis­tic clin­i­cal assessments
  • Pro­vid­ing DBT coun­selling and asso­ci­at­ed sup­port ser­vices to indi­vid­u­als, fam­i­lies and groups
  • Pro­vid­ing appro­pri­ate men­tor­ship, includ­ing train­ing and sup­port, to team mem­bers, oth­er health pro­fes­sion­als and ser­vice providers.
  • Pro­vid­ing oth­er staff with pro­fes­sion­al con­sul­ta­tion and guid­ance on com­plex client issues and/​or areas of iden­ti­fied high risk needs via inter­nal case con­fer­enc­ing where direct­ed by the Coor­di­na­tor and Cen­tre Manager

Who are we look­ing for?

To be suc­cess­ful in this role you will need to hold ter­tiary Men­tal Health qual­i­fi­ca­tions in the pro­fes­sion­al areas of Psy­chol­o­gy, Social Work, Occu­pa­tion­al Ther­a­py, or Nurs­ing with rel­e­vant reg­is­tra­tion or mem­ber­ship and have expe­ri­ence work­ing with and pro­vid­ing inter­ven­tions for young peo­ple and their fam­i­lies. In addi­tion, you will have min­i­mum five years’ expe­ri­ence in a rel­e­vant health relat­ed field includ­ing train­ing and expe­ri­ence rel­e­vant to the above roles.

Suc­cess­ful can­di­dates will be sub­ject to a Police Checks and Pre-employ­ment Drug and Alco­hol Test­ing and apply and main­tain a cur­rent Blue­card. You will be required to suc­cess­ful­ly com­plete the RFDS cre­den­tial­ing process which includes pro­vid­ing cer­ti­fied copies of qualifications/​registrations and evi­dence of immu­ni­ty or vac­ci­na­tion against VPD.
