Scholarships and Grants to support the ongoing development of remote Health Professionals and students are welcomed by CRANAplus.
Scholarships and Grants are also offered by many State and Territory Governments, the Commonwealth Government and other organisations.
This section lists some current Scholarships and Grants available. Please find attached the annual CRANAplus Scholarships and Grants Flyer . Download and place on your noticeboard for all staff to see.
Gayle Woodford Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is jointly sponsored by CRANAplus and the Centre for Remote Health.
The scholarship covers all course fees for the Graduate Certificate in Remote Health Practice, offered through Flinders University.
One scholarship will be awarded annually, for study to commence the following year.
The scholarship will continue for the duration of the Graduate Certificate in Remote Health Practice. The usual part time study period is 12 months, however recipients may be allowed up to 2 years to complete their course.
This scholarship is open to registered nurses, Indigenous health practitioners, allied health practitioners and medical officers.
Applicants must meet the following entry requirements of the Graduate Certificate in Remote Health Practice:
- hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution in a health related field.
- the Nursing stream must have a minimum of one year post-registration experience and must be currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse with no restrictions on practice.
- the Medical stream must be either concurrently enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine at Flinders University or currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Medical Practitioner.
The Faculty Board may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.
Working in remote practice is desirable.

CRANAplus Undergraduate Remote Placement Scholarships
In addition to the professional connections, access to resources and support undergraduate students gain from CRANAplus membership, there is the possibility of being awarded an Undergraduate Remote Placement Scholarship. The scholarships offer financial assistance to support undergraduate students who are interested in working remotely, giving them the opportunity to experience a remote health setting first hand. This demonstrates the commitment of CRANAplus to the future remote health workforce.
About The Scholarships
Each year CRANAplus offers a number of scholarships. These scholarships provide financial assistance of up to $1000 per applicant, per remote placement. They can be applied to the cost of fares, accommodation and other incidental costs incurred by a student undertaking an undergraduate placement in a remote area of Australia and its external Territories.
There are now 2 rounds of Undergraduate Scholarships:
Round One for placements from 1 January - 30 June each year- Applications open 1 March and close 31 May.
Round Two for placements 1 July - 31 December. Applications open 1 July and Close 30 October.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible for a Scholarship the applicant must be;
- a current Student Member
- enrolled as a full-time student in a health discipline at an Australian University
- Member of a University Rural Health club
- an Australian citizen, or have permanent residency status
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students are strongly encouraged to apply.
*Funding for the same purpose must not have been received from any other source.
Expectations & Conditions
It is an expectation that scholarship recipients will submit a summary of approximately 500 words of their experience for inclusion in our quarterly publication, the CRANAplus Magazine.

Announcement of Successful Applications
CRANAplus Scholarship Committee undertakes the assessment of individual applications and the decision is final. Successful applicants will be notified by email.
The CRANAplus - Nurses Memorial Foundation of S.A Grants
Currently working in rural, remote and isolated areas of Australia?
The Nurses’ Memorial Foundation of SA Inc has its beginnings in one of the world’s first official Registration bodies for Nurses, the British Nurses’ Association established in London in 1887.
The Society became the first body to establish a Register of Nurses, which recorded their professional education and experience.
In 1987, a new set of rules and objects were adopted more in keeping with its activities and the name changed to “Nurses Memorial Foundation of S.A. Incorporated.”
The Foundation endows Scholarships, as well as provides Awards and Grants to assist Nurses in their education, practice and research.
The Nurses Memorial Foundation of South Australia Inc. have generously endowed CRANAplus with monies to offer CRANAplus Members a limited number of $500 Grants.
Who is eligible?
These grants are available to Remote Nurses and Midwives who are current CRANAplus members, currently working in rural, remote and isolated areas of Australia.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses are strongly encouraged to apply.
How can I use the Grant should I be successful?
The grant is to contribute to the registration fees for CRANAplus short courses and/or the CRANAplus National Conference thereby assisting individuals to enhance their knowledge and skills in providing safe, quality care to remote and isolated individuals and communities.
