The Role…

  1. Pro­vide com­pre­hen­sive dia­betes edu­ca­tion ser­vices to remote Indige­nous communities
  2. Focus on pri­ma­ry and sec­ondary pre­ven­tion of dia­betes and relat­ed illnesses
  3. Fly out from Cairns to var­i­ous communities
  4. Engage with local health staff and com­mu­ni­ty stakeholders 
  5. Liaise and work with a mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary team 
  6. Case man­age­ment of clients 
  7. Main­tain accu­rate and up to date records of clients assess­ments and progress notes 
  8. Claim Medicare rebate­able items, where appropriate
  9. Pro­vide time­ly and accu­rate reports 

Qual­i­fi­ca­tions Required…

  • Cre­den­tialed Dia­betes Educator
  • Mem­ber of the ADEA
  • Cur­rent Queens­land Dri­vers Licence (or will­ing to obtain)
  • Blue Card (Work­ing with Chil­dren Card)
  • Cur­rent Nation­al Police Check (With­in 12 months)

The Ide­al Candidate…

  • Expe­ri­ence in plan­ning, imple­ment­ing and eval­u­at­ing health pro­grams and health services
  • Advanced knowl­edge, expe­ri­ence and clin­i­cal skills in rela­tion to the man­age­ment of ges­ta­tion­al dia­betes and Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
  • Expe­ri­enced work­ing remote 
  • Under­stand­ing of the his­tor­i­cal and con­tem­po­rary issues that impact on Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander people 
  • Abil­i­ty to com­mu­ni­cate sen­si­tive­ly and effec­tive­ly with Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander people
