About Us

The Red Lily Health Board Abo­rig­i­nal Cor­po­ra­tion (RLHB) is a region­al health ser­vice that aims to empow­er Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple in the West Arn­hem region, seek­ing to address health issues in the com­mu­ni­ty with the long-term vision improv­ing health out­comes by estab­lish­ing a region­al Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ty-con­trolled mod­el of ser­vice delivery. 

Red Lily is look­ing for a Remote Area Nurse who is keen to work as part of a team in a dynam­ic cul­tur­al envi­ron­ment that adds inter­est and sat­is­fac­tion to the impor­tant work that nurs­es already do. Cul­tur­al induc­tion and aware­ness train­ing is some­thing that Red Lily pro­vide to both Abo­rig­i­nal and non-Abo­rig­i­nal health staff to ensure the best chance of suc­cess in improv­ing health out­comes for West Arn­hem communities.

About The Community

Min­ji­lang is the name of the Abo­rig­i­nal town on Cro­ker Island, sit­u­at­ed just to the east of Cobourg Penin­su­la, approx­i­mate­ly 250km north-east of Dar­win. Sit­u­at­ed in the lumi­nes­cent Ara­fu­ra Sea, Cro­ker Island is home to abun­dant wildlife and flo­ra that inhab­it the beach­es, wet­lands, swamps and native bush­land. Approx­i­mate­ly 265 peo­ple live on Cro­ker Island, and many of the local peo­ple are mul­ti-lin­gual and speak Iwaid­ja, Mawng, Kun­win­jku, Kun­in­jku and Eng­lish. There is year-round air access with Fly Tiwi run­ning a dai­ly pas­sen­ger ser­vice to Dar­win and week­ly barge ser­vices from Dar­win for freight.

Min­ji­lang Health Cen­tre is staffed by two RANs, Abo­rig­i­nal Health Work­er, with the sup­port of com­mu­ni­ty dri­vers and recep­tion staff. The com­mu­ni­ty is ser­viced by a range of out­reach ser­vices with the GP vis­it­ing once a week. The North­ern Ter­ri­to­ry Health Depart­ment Rur­al Med­ical Prac­ti­tion­ers pro­vide 24-hour Phone sup­port, and in part­ner­ship with Care­Flight coor­di­nate 24-hour retrieval services.

Ben­e­fits

  • Base Salary up to $122,824 + Super.
  • Attrac­tive Annu­alised Salary* arrange­ments are avail­able to approved appli­cants, up to $165,000.00 pa. (Annu­alised Salary cal­cu­la­tions include base rate salary plus all award enti­tle­ments, trav­el allowances, pro­ject­ed over­time, on-call allowances, post-grad­u­ate allowances and oth­er indi­vid­ual and nego­ti­at­ed ben­e­fits, sub­ject to approval.)

Pri­ma­ry Objective

As a mem­ber of a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary coor­di­nate deliv­er pri­ma­ry health care ser­vices to com­mu­ni­ty that includes treat­ing emer­gency and acute pre­sen­ta­tions, coor­di­nate client focused care plan­ning, pro­mote well­be­ing, pro­vide health edu­ca­tion, and encour­age com­mu­ni­ty health action in order to con­tribute to bet­ter health out­comes for the peo­ple in West Arnhem.

Respon­si­bil­i­ties

  1. Pro­vide & pro­mote a com­pre­hen­sive Pri­ma­ry Health Care (PHC) ser­vice util­is­ing a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary approach and endorsed pro­to­cols (e.g. CARPA man­u­als) and policies. 
  2. Ensure all doc­u­men­ta­tion, records and health infor­ma­tion sys­tems are main­tained to ensure con­ti­nu­ity of care. 
  3. Facil­i­tate and pro­vide cul­tur­al­ly accept­able health edu­ca­tion sup­port­ing a com­mu­ni­ty par­tic­i­pa­tive approach to local lev­el decision-making. 
  4. Pro­mote and sup­port Abo­rig­i­nal Health Prac­ti­tion­ers (AHPs) to be first line providers of health care in the com­mu­ni­ty to facil­i­tate the deliv­ery of cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate health care. 
  5. Par­tic­i­pate in and encour­age edu­ca­tion and pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment of self, team mem­bers and learners. 
  6. Par­tic­i­pate in Qual­i­ty and Safe­ty pro­grams includ­ing devel­op­ment and eval­u­a­tion of poli­cies, pro­ce­dures, and pro­to­cols (includ­ing Work Health & Safety). 
  7. Par­tic­i­pate in per­for­mance man­age­ment and pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment pro­grams in con­sul­ta­tion with man­age­ment and pro­fes­sion­al sup­port groups.
  8. Par­tic­i­pate in the ori­en­ta­tion of new staff to the Organ­i­sa­tion’s phi­los­o­phy, poli­cies and pro­ce­dures and Health Cen­tre func­tions to pro­mote effec­tive teamwork.
  9. Par­tic­i­pate in the devel­op­ment, imple­men­ta­tion, and review of the Organ­i­sa­tion­al plan.
  10. Par­tic­i­pate in an on call 24-hour roster. 

Key Selec­tion Criteria

  • AHPRA Reg­is­tra­tion and rel­e­vant post basic qualifications.
  • Exten­sive expe­ri­ence and demon­strat­ed skills in Remote Area Nurs­ing with an under­stand­ing of all roles with­in a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary pri­ma­ry health care team mod­el in Aus­tralian indige­nous communities.
  • Demon­strat­ed abil­i­ty and expe­ri­ence in the man­age­ment of a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team.
  • High­ly devel­oped inter­per­son­al, com­plex prob­lem solv­ing, writ­ten, ver­bal and IT com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills with will­ing­ness to use health IT systems. 
  • Expe­ri­ence or will­ing to obtain train­ing in the PCIS health sys­tem (Pri­ma­ry Care Info System). 
  • Knowl­edge and expe­ri­ence in imple­men­ta­tion of Pri­ma­ry Health Care pro­grams and rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion gov­ern­ing work prac­tice in the remote setting.
  • Full Aus­tralian Work­ing Rights.
  • Man­u­al dri­vers’ license.
  • Nation­al Police Clear­ance (with­in 6 months, check done through Safe NT).
  • Valid Work­ing with Chil­dren Card (OCHRE card).
  • Will­ing to apply for Land Coun­cil work Permit.
  • Able and will­ing to trav­el by small light air­crafts and 4WD to remote communities.
  • Will­ing to par­tic­i­pate in an on call 24-hour roster.

Desir­able skills

  1. Appro­pri­ate ter­tiary and/​or post ‑basic qual­i­fi­ca­tions such as Mid­wifery, Child Health, Emer­gency Care, Men­tal Health, and/​or Pri­ma­ry Health Care.
