Full Job Description 

Roy­al Fly­ing Doc­tor Ser­vice (Queens­land Sec­tion) is seek­ing a pas­sion­ate, enthu­si­as­tic, and expe­ri­enced Reg­is­tered Nurse with Mid­wifery, to join our ded­i­cat­ed Bund­aberg Flight Nurse team. Pro­vid­ing invalu­able aeromed­ical retrieval ser­vices to peo­ple liv­ing and trav­el­ling in region­al and remote communities. 

The Role:

  • Per­ma­nent, part-time role (0.6 FTE) – 9 shifts per month 
  • Locat­ed at the RFDS Bund­aberg Base 
  • Pro­vid­ing emer­gency retrieval ser­vices & reg­u­lar patient transfers 

About You

You would describe your­self as an hon­est, reli­able, and hard­work­ing indi­vid­ual with the fol­low­ing spe­cif­ic cri­te­ria:

  • Reg­is­tered Nurse and Mid­wife with AHPRA registration
  • Demon­strat­ed 5 years’ post grad­u­ate expe­ri­ence (full-time equivalent)
  • Demon­strat­ed 3 years’ expe­ri­ence in a crit­i­cal care envi­ron­ment (in either a recog­nised ter­tiary hos­pi­tal ED with 24 hour in-depart­ment med­ical cov­er­age or a recog­nised ICU).
  • Abil­i­ty to spend con­sid­er­able time work­ing in the con­fined spaces of a small aircraft

Desir­able Skills (Can be obtained after start­ing employment)

  • Cur­rent Advanced Life Sup­port (ALS2)
  • Pae­di­atric Advanced Life Sup­port (PALS)
  • Neona­tal resus­ci­ta­tion certification

RFDS Bund­aberg Base is a busy emer­gency retrieval base, incor­po­rat­ing aeromed­ical retrieval and inter-hos­pi­tal trans­fer ser­vices. The new Bund­aberg Aeromed­ical Base opened in 2020 with a patient trans­fer facil­i­ty that pro­vides com­fort­able, clin­i­cal care for patients. Patients are flown with con­di­tions rang­ing from acute med­ical con­di­tions, trau­ma cas­es, to the trans­fer of expec­tant moth­ers and infants to spe­cial­ist care in Bris­bane. In Bund­aberg, you will work with a high­ly skilled team of nurs­es, pilots, and sup­port staff in a busy, friend­ly, and dynam­ic envi­ron­ment, mak­ing a dif­fer­ence in people’s every­day lives by deliv­er­ing vital care in emer­gency situations.

Suc­cess­ful can­di­dates will be sub­ject to a Police Check and Pre-employ­ment Drug and Alco­hol Test­ing. Can­di­dates are required to hold a cur­rent, unre­strict­ed Aus­tralian Dri­ver’s Licence and obtain an ASIC Card. Pri­or to appoint­ment you will be required to pro­vide cer­ti­fied copies of qualifications/​registrations and evi­dence of immu­ni­ty or vac­ci­na­tion against VPD. You will also be required to suc­cess­ful­ly com­plete the RFDS and Queens­land Health cre­den­tial­ing process.

RFDS (Queens­land Sec­tion) works with vul­ner­a­ble patients in remote parts of Queens­land and pro­vides an essen­tial ser­vice to many region­al and remote com­mu­ni­ties. To ensure the health and safe­ty of our staff, our patients, and these com­mu­ni­ties, as well as to man­age the risks involved in ser­vice deliv­ery and COVID-19 trans­mis­sion in these com­mu­ni­ties and our work­places, our staff are required to be vac­ci­nat­ed against COVID-19. If you are the suc­cess­ful can­di­date the require­ment to be vac­ci­nat­ed against COVID-19, includ­ing main­tain­ing any rec­om­mend­ed boost­er require­ments, will be a term of your employ­ment, as will the require­ment to pro­vide proof of vaccination.
