Miwatj Health Abo­rig­i­nal Cor­po­ra­tion (Miwatj) are seek­ing a Reg­is­tered Mid­wife Nurse to join their team in Ramingin­ing, North­ern Territory.

Whats the role?
Miwatj Health are pleased to offer this posi­tion as a full time oppor­tu­ni­ty. Based in Ramingin­ing, you will be work­ing close­ly with the Miwatj Abo­rig­i­nal work­force which is crit­i­cal to their clients suc­cess. You’ll be com­mit­ted to find­ing the best way to com­mu­ni­cate with Miwatj clients and their team in order to pro­vide great care in some­times uncer­tain cir­cum­stances. Core aspects of your role will include:

  • Work­ing in the Women’s Pro­gram in part­ner­ship with the Abo­rig­i­nal Health work­force to pro­vide high qual­i­ty ante­na­tal and post­na­tal care to clients of Gali­winku Community
  • Pro­vid­ing a com­pre­hen­sive, woman-cen­tered mid­wifery ser­vice as per the updat­ed antenatal/​postnatal protocol
  • Pro­vid­ing sex­u­al health and lifestyle edu­ca­tion to pre-con­cep­tion girls
  • Pro­vid­ing Women’s Health Checks to clients includ­ing pap smears, implanon insertion/​removal and STI screening
  • Assist­ing women with fam­i­ly plan­ning edu­ca­tion and con­tra­cep­tive options
  • Devel­op­ing effec­tive inter-agency part­ner­ships, for exam­ple with Gove and Dar­win Hos­pi­tals, to ensure con­ti­nu­ity of care for clients
  • Work­ing in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the MESCH team to devel­op edu­ca­tion pro­grams and mate­r­i­al for ante­na­tal birth and post­na­tal education
  • Pro­vid­ing high qual­i­ty emer­gency care that at times is inde­pen­dent but with tele­phone support

  • Cur­rent Reg­is­tra­tion and Prac­tic­ing Cer­tifi­cate as a Reg­is­tered Mid­wife Nurse through AHPRA
  • Rel­e­vant tertiary/​post grad­u­ate qual­i­fi­ca­tions and expe­ri­ence in pub­lic health, pae­di­atrics and/​or Pri­ma­ry Health Care
  • Min­i­mum 5 years’ expe­ri­ence work­ing in Mater­nal and Child Health program.
  • Demon­strat­ed knowl­edge of the prin­ci­ples of Pri­ma­ry Health Care, and pro­gram deliv­ery in a Pri­ma­ry Health Care setting
  • Demon­strat­ed knowl­edge and under­stand­ing of indige­nous cul­ture and social deter­mi­nants of health
  • Demon­strat­ed abil­i­ty to inter­act effec­tive­ly with peo­ple from a diverse cul­ture, where Eng­lish is not their first language
  • Demon­strat­ed abil­i­ty to work inde­pen­dent­ly with expe­ri­ence in par­tic­i­pat­ing in after hour’s emer­gency on call ros­ter and emer­gency first response
  • Pos­ses­sion of Advanced Life Sup­port (ALS), Remote Area Course, and About Giv­ing Vac­cines (AGV) cer­tifi­cates, man­u­al dri­vers licence and OCHRE card, or eli­gi­ble to obtain

What’s it like liv­ing in Ramingin­ing?
Ramingin­ing is a main­land com­mu­ni­ty locat­ed to the west of the Glyde Riv­er and 580 km east of Dar­win. The com­mu­ni­ty is locat­ed on the edge of the her­itage list­ed Ara­fu­ra Wet­lands in Cen­tral Arn­hem Land. There are 11 out­sta­tions belong­ing to Ramingin­ing. Pop­u­la­tion at these out­sta­tions is very much depen­dent on sea­son and rain­fall with occu­pan­cy rang­ing from 6 to 100. The main lan­guage spo­ken is Djam­bar­rpuyn­gu and in total there are 14 lan­guages spo­ken across thir­teen clan groups includ­ing English.
