The Red Lily Health Board Aboriginal Corporation (RLHB) aims to empower Aboriginal people in the West Arnhem region and address health issues in the community by providing leadership with the long-term vision of establishing a regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.

You’ve stud­ied the prin­ci­ples of com­mu­ni­ty health, now come and put it into practice. 

We are very keen to have an Abo­rig­i­nal Health Prac­ti­tion­er join the team. Cul­tur­al induc­tion and aware­ness train­ing is some­thing that Red Lily pro­vide to both Indige­nous and non-Indige­nous health staff to ensure the best chance of suc­cess in improv­ing health out­comes for West Arn­hem communities. 

Min­ji­lang Health Cen­tre is sit­u­at­ed on Cro­ker Island 200km NE of Dar­win with a pop­u­la­tion of approx­i­mate­ly 300. It is cur­rent­ly a 3‑clinician post. Two-bed­room hous­ing is pro­vid­ed, and on-call is shared between the clin­i­cians (with a com­mu­ni­ty dri­ver in support). 

BASE SALARY: $108,160 TO $111,696 (nego­tiable based on expe­ri­ence and qualifications)

Pri­ma­ry Objective

As a part of a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary health team pro­vide a first point of con­tact for Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander peo­ple to ensure qual­i­ty pro­vi­sions of health care ser­vices are deliv­ered in a cul­tur­al­ly safe and effec­tive manner. 

About the Team

The posi­tion will be part of the Red Lily Clin­i­cal Ser­vices team that pro­vides pri­ma­ry health care in the West Arn­hem region (includ­ing home­lands). Coor­di­na­tion with oth­er com­mu­ni­ties and teams with­in Red Lily and beyond will be nec­es­sary to ensure that the com­mu­ni­ties receive high qual­i­ty ser­vices and achieve opti­mal outcomes.

Respon­si­bil­i­ties

  1. Pro­vide qual­i­ty pri­ma­ry health care to indi­vid­u­als, fam­i­lies and the com­mu­ni­ty (includ­ing out­sta­tions as required) with­in own com­pe­ten­cy lev­el and endorsed poli­cies & pro­to­cols (e.g. CARPA Man­u­al), in order to meet expect­ed health outcomes
  2. Par­tic­i­pate in the after­hours on-call ros­ter to meet com­mu­ni­ty emer­gency needs
  3. Work with min­i­mal super­vi­sion in part­ner­ship with oth­er team mem­bers, to facil­i­tate the deliv­ery of cul­tur­al­ly safe health services
  4. Pro­vide a link between Com­mu­ni­ty cul­ture and prac­tices and deliv­er health ser­vice programs
  5. Par­tic­i­pate in plan­ning, deliv­ery and eval­u­a­tion of health edu­ca­tion and health pro­mo­tion pro­grams to pro­mote healthy lifestyles
  6. Pro­vide or assist in the pro­vi­sion of emer­gency care with­in pro­fes­sion­al capabilities
  7. Ensure all doc­u­men­ta­tion, records and elec­tron­ic health infor­ma­tion sys­tems are main­tained to ensure con­ti­nu­ity and con­fi­den­tial­i­ty of client care
  8. Par­tic­i­pate in the devel­op­ment, imple­men­ta­tion and review of the local Health Cen­tre Ser­vice plan
  9. Par­tic­i­pate in the organisation’s qual­i­ty improve­ment process for the pro­vi­sion of safe, effec­tive and effi­cient health care
  10. Par­tic­i­pate in the devel­op­ment, imple­men­ta­tion, and review of the Organ­i­sa­tion­al plan
  11. Par­tic­i­pate in per­for­mance man­age­ment and pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment pro­grams in con­sul­ta­tion with man­age­ment and pro­fes­sion­al sup­port groups
  12. Par­tic­i­pate in the ori­en­ta­tion of new staff to the Organ­i­sa­tion’s phi­los­o­phy, poli­cies and pro­ce­dures and Health Cen­tre func­tions to pro­mote effec­tive teamwork.

Key Selec­tion Criteria

Essen­tial

  1. Eli­gi­ble for reg­is­tra­tion with the Aus­tralian Health Prac­ti­tion­er Reg­u­la­tion Agency as a Abo­rig­i­nal and/​or Tor­res Strait Islander Pri­ma­ry Health­care Prac­ti­tion­er and rel­e­vant post grad­u­ate qualifications.
  2. Hold a Cer­tifi­cate IV in Abo­rig­i­nal and /​or Tor­res Strait Islander Pri­ma­ry Health Care (Prac­tice), OR Cer­tifi­cate III in Abo­rig­i­nal Health Work (Clin­i­cal) or equiv­a­lent (or high­er) or will­ing to under­take assess­ment against the stan­dards with­in a nego­ti­at­ed time frame.
  3. Demon­strat­ed abil­i­ty to work effec­tive­ly with min­i­mal supervision.
  4. Abil­i­ty and desire to work with­in a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team to bring about pos­i­tive change in health outcomes.
  5. Covid-19 Vac­ci­na­tion certificate
  6. Demon­strat­ed expe­ri­ence in the use of health IT systems.
  7. Com­mit­ment to own pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment and shar­ing knowl­edge and skills.
  8. Under­stand­ing of the prin­ci­ples of Qual­i­ty Improve­ment process­es and their appli­ca­tion in the health care setting.
  9. Under­stand­ing of issues affect­ing Abo­rig­i­nal health, remote area health, prin­ci­ples of pri­ma­ry health­care and rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion gov­ern­ing work practice.
  10. Knowl­edge of OH&S require­ments with­in the workplace.
  11. Hold (or eli­gi­ble for) Police Clear­ance Cer­tifi­cate and Ochre Card.
  12. Will­ing­ness to par­tic­i­pate in an on call 24-hour roster.

Desir­able skills

1. Appro­pri­ate ter­tiary and/​or post grad­u­ate qualifications.

2. Expe­ri­ence in liv­ing and work­ing in remote Abo­rig­i­nal communities.
