We offer the fol­low­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties to be part of the Allied Health Ser­vice-Learn­ing Team based in Mount Isa. These posi­tions pro­vide an excit­ing oppor­tu­ni­ty to influ­ence the future gen­er­a­tions of the health work­force and rur­al and remote health policy:

  • Clin­i­cal Lead in Occu­pa­tion­al Therapy
  • Clin­i­cal Lead in Speech Pathology

WHAT YOU CAN ACCOM­PLISH IN THE ROLE

As an inte­gral part of our dynam­ic and inno­v­a­tive team, you will facil­i­tate ser­vice-learn­ing pro­grams in col­lab­o­ra­tion with local com­mu­ni­ty-based organ­i­sa­tions. With a mis­sion to lead excel­lence in remote, rur­al and Indige­nous Health, you will pro­vide clin­i­cal super­vi­sion to under­grad­u­ate Occu­pa­tion­al Ther­a­py stu­dents, engage with local stake­hold­ers, and sup­port inter-pro­fes­sion­al learn­ing in a remote con­text. Based in North West­ern Qld, you will be required to trav­el to remote com­mu­ni­ties and work in non clin­i­cal envi­ron­ments such as day-cares, schools and aged care facil­i­ties and com­mu­ni­cate sen­si­tive­ly and effec­tive­ly with Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander peoples.

Ser­vice learn­ing is an inno­v­a­tive approach to remote ser­vice pro­vi­sion and work­force devel­op­ment. It deliv­ers stu­dent-assist­ed, peri­od­ic, inter­pro­fes­sion­al ser­vices for adults and chil­dren in areas of high or unmet need as iden­ti­fied by ser­vice providers and community.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

With an adven­tur­ous spir­it and a recog­nised reg­is­tra­tion as an Occu­pa­tion­al Ther­a­pist, you will have expe­ri­ence in ser­vice-learn­ing com­mu­ni­ty reha­bil­i­ta­tion and can demon­strate a pas­sion, expe­ri­ence, and capac­i­ty for stu­dent sup­port and teach­ing. Your abil­i­ty to engage, influ­ence and col­lab­o­rate effec­tive­ly across orga­ni­za­tions, pro­fes­sions and regions will see you improve access to occu­pa­tion­al ther­a­py ser­vices and con­tribute to the centre’s pri­ma­ry goal to improve the health of rur­al and remote populations.

The James Cook Uni­ver­si­ty Mur­tupuni Cen­tre for Rur­al and Remote Health (MCRRH) is part of a nation­al net­work of fed­er­al­ly fund­ed uni­ver­si­ty depart­ments of rur­al health and is head­quar­tered in Mount Isa with nodes in Clon­cur­ry and Longreach.
