Miwatj Health is a flex­i­ble employ­er and is pleased to offer oppor­tu­ni­ties for Gen­er­al Prac­ti­tion­ers to work across Miwatj Health Abo­rig­i­nal Corporation’s clin­ics locat­ed at Nhu­lun­buy, Gun­yan­gara, Yir­rkala, Galiwin’ku, Milingim­bi, Ramingin­ing and Gapuwiyak.

Through­out our clin­ics at these loca­tions, we have vacan­cies to suit your needs and avail­abil­i­ty includ­ing Full Time, Part Time, FIFO on a vari­ety of bases, as well as fixed term place­ments. Miwatj Health is keen to hear from you whether you are already liv­ing in the region or live else­where in Aus­tralia where relo­ca­tion assis­tance will be provided. 

In this impor­tant role, you will work along­side a range of exter­nal Health Ser­vice Providers includ­ing, Gove Dis­trict Hos­pi­tal, NT Depart­ment of Health, Home­lands and Com­mu­ni­ty organ­i­sa­tions, pathol­o­gy and radi­ol­o­gy ser­vices and phar­ma­cy sup­pli­ers, Care­flight and RFDS. Inter­nal­ly, you will work close­ly with the Clin­i­cal Ser­vices Man­ag­er and clin­i­cal staff, com­mu­ni­ty, allied and pub­lic health ser­vices staff, admin staff, and part­ner clin­i­cians work­ing on joint projects with Miwatj Health.

Immerse your­self in Yol­ngu cul­ture and life. East Arn­hem Land has some of the most remote and beau­ti­ful loca­tions in Aus­tralia, out­side of work there are many oppor­tu­ni­ties par­take in the many activ­i­ties each com­mu­ni­ty has to offer.

Core aspects of your role will include:

  • As a mem­ber of a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary pri­ma­ry health care team, pro­vide cul­tur­al­ly safe med­ical ser­vices to the com­mu­ni­ty in the clin­ic and Aged care facility.
  • Iden­ti­fi­ca­tion and man­age­ment of chron­ic con­di­tions with­in a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary approach.
  • Active par­tic­i­pa­tion in the dai­ly clin­i­cal and health pro­mo­tion­al routines.
  • Accept­ing refer­rals of patients from oth­er mem­bers of the health team.
  • Use clin­i­cal infor­ma­tion sys­tem (Com­mu­ni­care) to iden­ti­fy care needs, ini­ti­ate recalls and care plans, doc­u­ment patient con­sul­ta­tion, and care, and Medicare billing. 
  • Par­tic­i­pate in ros­tered clin­ics and out­reach ser­vices — for exam­ple, Chron­ic Con­di­tions and Child Health.
  • Pro­vide in-ser­vice” edu­ca­tion to health staff.
  • Assist the Senior med­ical Offi­cer in man­age­ment, edu­ca­tion, pol­i­cy devel­op­ment, qual­i­ty, and safe­ty or oth­er project initiatives.
  • Pro­vi­sion of health edu­ca­tion to Abo­rig­i­nal Health Prac­ti­tion­ers and oth­er mem­bers of the clin­ic and community.
  • Par­tic­i­pa­tion in health pro­mo­tion activ­i­ties, health research, and development.
  • Devel­op and main­tain the knowl­edge and skills for the role includ­ing par­tic­i­pa­tion in pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment activities 
  • Fol­low defined ser­vice qual­i­ty stan­dards, work health and safe­ty poli­cies, and pro­ce­dures relat­ing to the work being under­tak­en to ensure high-qual­i­ty, safe ser­vices in the workplace.
  • Pro­mo­tion of a Qual­i­ty Improve­ment approach to health sys­tems issues and problem-solving.

  • Com­pet­i­tive salary of $240,000 — $280,000

  • An under­stand­ing of the issues faced by Yol­ngu peo­ple liv­ing in remote settings. 
  • Knowl­edge and under­stand­ing of Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander cul­tures, val­ues, and beliefs.
  • Demon­strat­ed skills and abil­i­ty to com­mu­ni­cate sen­si­tive­ly with Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander peo­ple from dif­fer­ent cul­tur­al backgrounds.
  • Demon­strat­ed knowl­edge and under­stand­ing of issues affect­ing the health and well-being of Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander peo­ple in con­tem­po­rary society.
  • Exten­sive expe­ri­ence in Gen­er­al Prac­tice and/​or in a rur­al or remote Pri­ma­ry Health Care setting
  • An abil­i­ty to func­tion as a mem­ber of a mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary team in the deliv­ery of edu­ca­tion and train­ing activ­i­ties for clin­i­cal staff.
  • Will­ing­ness to under­take cross-cul­tur­al train­ing and the abil­i­ty to inter­act effec­tive­ly with peo­ple from diverse cultures.
  • Excel­lent plan­ning and orga­ni­za­tion­al skills.
  • Excel­lent writ­ten and oral com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills, includ­ing infor­ma­tion tech­nol­o­gy skills and the abil­i­ty to liaise with oth­er agen­cies both gov­ern­ment and non-government.
