To be suc­cess­ful, you will have…

  • Eli­gi­ble for reg­is­tra­tion in the cat­e­go­ry of Reg­is­tered Nurse by the Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Board of Australia.
  • Demon­strat­ed sig­nif­i­cant knowl­edge, expe­ri­ence and lead­er­ship in acute men­tal health, includ­ing demon­strat­ed knowl­edge appli­ca­tion of the Men­tal Health Act 2014 (WA)
  • High­ly devel­oped ver­bal, writ­ten, inter­per­son­al and nego­ti­a­tion skills, includ­ing the abil­i­ty to liaise and con­sult with peo­ple in a vari­ety of contexts.
  • Well-devel­oped con­cep­tu­al, ana­lyt­i­cal, and eval­u­a­tion skills, includ­ing the abil­i­ty to pro­vide inno­v­a­tive solu­tions to com­plex and sen­si­tive problems.
  • Demon­strat­ed com­mit­ment to self-devel­op­ment and the review and devel­op­ment of the per­for­mance of team members.
  • Demon­strat­ed sig­nif­i­cant knowl­edge and appli­ca­tion of research and best prac­tice prin­ci­ples and an expe­ri­ence under­tak­ing activ­i­ties util­is­ing the qual­i­ty review cycle and aligned with the Nation­al Safe­ty and Qual­i­ty Health Ser­vices Standards.
  • Cur­rent knowl­edge of leg­isla­tive and reg­u­la­to­ry require­ments in the areas of Equal Oppor­tu­ni­ty, Dis­abil­i­ty Ser­vices and Occu­pa­tion­al Safe­ty & Health, and how these impact on employ­ment, peo­ple man­age­ment and ser­vice delivery

Posi­tion Profile:

The Nurse Unit Man­ag­er pro­vides lead­er­ship and direc­tion to the mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team of the Men­tal Health Inpa­tient Unit. The posi­tion is account­able for improv­ing and main­tain­ing stan­dards, devel­op­ing solu­tions and deliv­er­ing out­comes con­sis­tent with ser­vice and organ­i­sa­tion­al imper­a­tives and tar­gets. As a key leader the Nurse Unit Man­ag­er will ensure that the unit meets the require­ment for deliv­ery of a patient cen­tred ser­vice against key per­for­mance indi­ca­tors: qual­i­ty, bud­get and human resource. The posi­tion pro­vides clin­i­cal exper­tise and clin­i­cal lead­er­ship for men­tal health ser­vices to rel­e­vant inter­nal and exter­nal customers.

The Coun­try Nurs­ing & Mid­wifery incen­tive pro­gram is avail­able to new and exist­ing nurs­es and mid­wives — across a broad range of patient-fac­ing roles — on fixed term or per­ma­nent con­tracts at 76 select loca­tions. Eli­gi­ble nurs­es and mid­wives can receive between $5,000 and $17,000 in sup­port over 12 months (WA Coun­try Health Ser­vice — Coun­try Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Incen­tive Program).

Area Pro­file

WACHS Kim­ber­ley is the most north­ern health region of WACHS. The Kim­ber­ley region has approx­i­mate­ly 200 Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ties, over 34 dif­fer­ent Abo­rig­i­nal lan­guage groups and 45 per­cent of the pop­u­la­tion are Abo­rig­i­nal and/​or Tor­res Strait Islander peo­ple. WACHS Kim­ber­ley con­sists of six hos­pi­tals, an inpa­tient men­tal health unit, three Com­mu­ni­ty Direc­torates and a Cor­po­rate Office. WACHS Kim­ber­ley pro­vides hos­pi­tal, com­mu­ni­ty health, pub­lic health, remote area health, com­mu­ni­ty aged care, and men­tal health ser­vices across the region through a ded­i­cat­ed team of med­ical, nurs­ing, Abo­rig­i­nal health, allied health, and sup­port staff.
