The Enrolled Nurse provides direct patient/client centred nursing care to assigned patients/clients, within the scope of practice of an enrolled nurse and under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse/midwife to achieve planned patient outcomes.

King Island Hos­pi­tal and Com­mu­ni­ty Health Centre 

King Island Hos­pi­tal and Health Cen­tre (KIH­HC) are look­ing for expe­ri­enced Enrolled Nurs­es with an inter­est in devel­op­ing their skills in Aged Care. KIH­HC pro­vides an excep­tion­al aged care ser­vice offer­ing 14 per­ma­nent res­i­den­tial aged care beds pro­vid­ing high, low and respite care. You will be well sup­port­ed in this role by a large mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary team includ­ing close super­vi­sion by Reg­is­tered Nurs­es and the Clin­i­cal Nurse Educator.

The Loca­tion:

With a pop­u­la­tion of approx­i­mate­ly 1600 peo­ple King Island is based in the Bass Strait between Vic­to­ria and north­west coast of Tas­ma­nia, and is well-known for world class cheese, fresh seafood, very clean air, and incred­i­ble surf­ing and golf. The Hos­pi­tal is locat­ed in Cur­rie which is King Island’s largest town and admin­is­tra­tive centre.

King Island Hos­pi­tal & Health Cen­tre has four acute care beds, a pal­lia­tive room with adjoin­ing fam­i­ly room, two emer­gency rooms, treat­ment room, out­pa­tients con­sult­ing rooms, 14 per­ma­nent res­i­den­tial aged care beds pro­vid­ing per­ma­nent and respite care.

Details of Appointment

Mul­ti­ple per­ma­nent full time or part time, shift-work­er posi­tions work­ing up to 76 hours per fort­night to com­mence when you are avail­able to join our team.

  • Appli­cants should note that, for a peri­od of twelve months from the date of pub­li­ca­tion, this selec­tion process may be used to fill sub­se­quent or sim­i­lar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary: $68,913 to $75,902 pro rata per annum. Our Employ­er 11% super­an­nu­a­tion con­tri­bu­tion is on top of this amount.

You’ll have access to salary pack­age a range of ben­e­fits includ­ing liv­ing expens­es up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal enter­tain­ment each FBT year + oth­er ben­e­fits if eligible. 

In addi­tion, the fol­low­ing allowances cal­cu­lat­ed on the salaried incre­men­tal point may be available: 

  • Dis­trict Allowances of up to $2385.25 per annum for a family 
  • Remote and Rur­al Pro­fes­sion­al Devel­op­ment Allowance of $3,614 per annum and an addi­tion­al salary allowance of 10
  • Post Grad­u­ate Allowance of up to 7.5% based on qual­i­fi­ca­tion type
  • Salary range is in accor­dance with Nurs­es and Mid­wives (Tas­man­ian State Ser­vice) Agree­ment 2023 and Nurs­es and Mid­wives (Tas­man­ian State Ser­vice) Inter­im Agree­ment 2013


Suc­cess­ful appli­cants will be required to meet the essen­tial criteria:

  1. Reg­is­tered with the Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Board of Aus­tralia as an Enrolled Nurse (holds a Board-approved qual­i­fi­ca­tion in admin­is­tra­tion of medicines) 

*Registration/​licences that are essen­tial require­ments of this role must remain cur­rent and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the sta­tus of these may be checked at any time dur­ing employ­ment. It is the employee’s respon­si­bil­i­ty to ensure that registration/​licences remain cur­rent and to advise the Employ­er if their cir­cum­stances change. This includes noti­fy­ing the Employ­er if a registration/​licence is revoked, can­celled or has its con­di­tions altered.

The Head of the State Ser­vice has deter­mined that the per­son nom­i­nat­ed for this job is to sat­is­fy a pre‑employment check before tak­ing up the appoint­ment, on pro­mo­tion or trans­fer. The fol­low­ing checks are to be conducted:

  1. Con­vic­tion checks in the fol­low­ing areas: 
  • crimes of violence
  • sex relat­ed offences
  • seri­ous drug offences
  • crimes involv­ing dishonesty
  1. Iden­ti­fi­ca­tion check
  2. Dis­ci­pli­nary action in pre­vi­ous employ­ment check. 

*As required by the Com­mon­wealth Home Sup­port Pro­gram and/​or the Aged Care Act, occu­pants of this role are required to under­take a con­vic­tion check assess­ment every three years.
