About us

The Red Lily Health Board Abo­rig­i­nal Cor­po­ra­tion (RLHB) is a region­al health ser­vice that aims to empow­er Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple in the West Arn­hem region, seek­ing to address health issues in the com­mu­ni­ty with the long-term vision improv­ing health out­comes by estab­lish­ing a region­al Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ty-con­trolled mod­el of ser­vice delivery. 

About Jabiru:

You will find Jabiru 255kms east of Dar­win. The town­ship is sur­round­ed by Kakadu Nation­al Park boast­ing wet­lands, bill­abongs, and wildlife. You can enjoy your time off explor­ing the region, fish­ing in the water­ways, cool­ing off in the swim­ming pool or tak­ing part in the com­mu­ni­ty’s many sport­ing activ­i­ties. The brand-new mod­ern health clin­ic is sched­uled to open in Sep­tem­ber 2024 which will pro­vide addi­tion­al infra­struc­ture and fur­ther oppor­tu­ni­ties for ser­vice provision. 

About the Role:

The posi­tion will be part of the Red Lily Clin­i­cal Ser­vices team (based at Jabiru) that deliv­ers high qual­i­ty and cul­tur­al­ly secure pri­ma­ry health­care to all peo­ple in the Kakadu region. You will be respon­si­ble for pro­vid­ing high qual­i­ty and cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate pri­ma­ry health­care to the good peo­ple of Jabiru and home­lands, includ­ing vis­i­tors. This posi­tion requires an under­stand­ing of issues affect­ing Abo­rig­i­nal health, prin­ci­ples of Pri­ma­ry Health Care and rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion gov­ern­ing work prac­tices in a remote health setting.

You will be part of a team that includes Health Cen­tre Man­ag­er, GP, Remote Area Nurs­es, Abo­rig­i­nal Health Prac­ti­tion­ers and admin­is­tra­tion staff work­ing along­side com­mu­ni­ty engage­ment work­ers, as well as a wide range of out­reach spe­cial­ists and ser­vice providers. The posi­tion will be sup­port­ed by an expe­ri­enced remote lead­er­ship team report­ing to the Direc­tor of Pri­ma­ry Healthcare.

In this role, you will:

  1. Pro­vide & pro­mote a com­pre­hen­sive Pri­ma­ry Health Care (PHC) ser­vice util­is­ing a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary approach and endorsed pro­to­cols (e.g. CARPA man­u­als) and policies. 
  2. Ensure all doc­u­men­ta­tion, records and health infor­ma­tion sys­tems are main­tained to ensure con­ti­nu­ity of care. 
  3. Facil­i­tate and pro­vide cul­tur­al­ly accept­able health edu­ca­tion sup­port­ing a com­mu­ni­ty par­tic­i­pa­tive approach to local lev­el decision-making. 
  4. Pro­mote and sup­port Abo­rig­i­nal Health Prac­ti­tion­ers (AHPs) to be first line providers of health care in the com­mu­ni­ty to facil­i­tate the deliv­ery of cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate health care. 
  5. Par­tic­i­pate in and encour­age edu­ca­tion and pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment of self, team mem­bers and learners. 
  6. Par­tic­i­pate in Qual­i­ty and Safe­ty pro­grams includ­ing devel­op­ment and eval­u­a­tion of poli­cies, pro­ce­dures, and pro­to­cols (includ­ing Work Health & Safety). 
  7. Par­tic­i­pate in per­for­mance man­age­ment and pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment pro­grams in con­sul­ta­tion with man­age­ment and pro­fes­sion­al sup­port groups.
  8. Par­tic­i­pate in the ori­en­ta­tion of new staff to the Organ­i­sa­tion’s phi­los­o­phy, poli­cies and pro­ce­dures and Health Cen­tre func­tions to pro­mote effec­tive teamwork.
  9. Par­tic­i­pate in the devel­op­ment, imple­men­ta­tion, and review of the Organ­i­sa­tion­al plan.
  10. Par­tic­i­pate in an on call 24-hour roster. 

Our ide­al candidate:

  1. Is a reg­is­tered nurse with AHPRA and holds a rel­e­vant post-basic or post grad­u­ate qualifications.
  2. Brings exten­sive expe­ri­ence and demon­strat­ed skills in remote area nurs­ing, with an under­stand­ing of the roles with­in a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary pri­ma­ry health care team in Aus­tralian indige­nous communities.
  3. Effec­tive­ly inter­acts with peo­ple from diverse cul­tur­al back­grounds, demon­strat­ing a strong grasp of Abo­rig­i­nal health issues, cul­tur­al safe­ty, and health determinants.
  4. Pos­sess­es knowl­edge and expe­ri­ence in imple­ment­ing pri­ma­ry health care pro­grams and nav­i­gat­ing rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion gov­ern­ing remote work practices.
  5. Demon­strates a com­mit­ment to qual­i­ty improve­ment, work­place health and safe­ty, research, edu­ca­tion, and pro­fes­sion­al development.
  6. Has high­ly devel­oped inter­per­son­al, prob­lem-solv­ing, com­mu­ni­ca­tion, and IT skills, and is will­ing to uti­lize health IT systems.
  7. Holds (or is eli­gi­ble for) an NT man­u­al dri­ver’s license, police clear­ance, Ochre Card, and Land Coun­cil work permit.
  8. Is ready to trav­el to remote com­mu­ni­ties by air and 4WD, reside in a remote set­ting, and par­tic­i­pate in a 24-hour on-call roster.
