KAMS has a highly rewarding opportunity for a dedicated General Practitioner to join their multidisciplinary team in Broome, WA. We have an available 2.6 FTE. This role is being offered on a full time or part time basis.

Report­ing to the KAMS Senior Med­ical Offi­cer, this role pro­vides com­pre­hen­sive pri­ma­ry health care in line with accept­ed best prac­tice stan­dards and in con­junc­tion with the mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team, assist in the devel­op­ment and main­te­nance of high qual­i­ty health ser­vices, ensur­ing con­tin­u­ous mon­i­tor­ing, qual­i­ty improve­ment and inno­va­tion in the deliv­ery of com­pre­hen­sive pri­ma­ry health services. 

Some of your key respon­si­bil­i­ties will include (but will not be lim­it­ed to):

  • Pro­vide clin­i­cal pri­ma­ry health care ser­vices as part of the reg­u­lar GP ros­ter. This will include work­ing over the remote clin­ic sites and Head­space Broome. 
  • Pro­vide emer­gency assess­ment, sta­bil­i­sa­tion and care dur­ing hours, and on-call after-hours (where ros­tered). Liaise close­ly with the Roy­al Fly­ing Doc­tor Ser­vice, Broome Hos­pi­tal and or Emer­gency Tele­health Ser­vice for time­ly evacuation
  • Ensure that clin­i­cal care is in line with region­al best prac­tice standards
  • Ensure a com­mit­ment to the uptake of KAH­PF pro­to­cols, Kim­ber­ley Mater­nal and Child Health pro­to­cols, Kim­ber­ley Stan­dard Drug list, and oth­er endorsed tools for region­al best practice
  • Par­tic­i­pate in the imple­men­ta­tion of in-ser­vices for health staff, with fre­quen­cy and con­tent deter­mined in con­junc­tion with senior man­agers and based on cur­rent staff skills and needs
  • Par­tic­i­pate in region­al and local KAMS health ini­tia­tives such as health research, region­al best prac­tice guide­lines, health infor­ma­tion, IT devel­op­ment, med­ical edu­ca­tion and train­ing and oth­er areas of clin­i­cal gov­er­nance. It is encour­aged to con­tribute your own exper­tise to such projects as well as tak­ing up the oppor­tu­ni­ty to devel­op in areas of par­tic­u­lar per­son­al and career interest.

About You

To be suc­cess­ful, you will be a ful­ly qual­i­fied Gen­er­al Prac­ti­tion­er who has, or is eli­gi­ble for, full reg­is­tra­tion with AHPRA. Appli­ca­tions are encour­aged from both expe­ri­enced or recent­ly qual­i­fied GPs, with sig­nif­i­cant sup­port struc­tures in place for those who have just fin­ished their voca­tion­al train­ing years.

Pre­vi­ous expe­ri­ence work­ing in remote areas or with Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ties is not essen­tial, pro­vid­ing you are a strong com­mu­ni­ca­tor and team play­er, will­ing to work with­in remote Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ties and able to pro­vide care to patients in a cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate manner.

Not typ­i­cal GP clin­ics, it is imper­a­tive that you can work effec­tive­ly with­in KAM­S’s pre-exist­ing struc­tures of gov­er­nance as part of a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team of Doc­tors, Abo­rig­i­nal Health Work­ers, Reg­is­tered Nurs­es, Health Pro­mo­tion Work­ers, and a vari­ety of Allied Health Professionals.

In addi­tion, you will need to have a cur­rent C class man­u­al dri­ver’s license and be will­ing to trav­el by 4WD and light air­craft when required. It is a require­ment that the suc­cess­ful can­di­date be will­ing to under­go a Nation­al Police Check pri­or to employ­ment with KAMS.
