The Mental Health Remote Area Nurse is responsible for providing integrated, culturally responsive, and safe mental health services to meet the Mental Health and Social and Emotional Well-Being (MHSEWB) needs of the Galiwin’ku Community and surrounding Homelands. The position leads and monitors the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care for individuals with diagnosed mental illnesses and co-morbid chronic conditions. With a focus on Primary Health Care (PHC) and outreach, the role implements Stepped-Care services and is embedded in the PHC service model to promote holistic health care solutions for clients.

- $119,634.00 — $128,524.00 + Superannuation
- 11.5% Superannuation
- Ability to Salary Package up to $15,900pa plus a further $2,650pa on Meals and Entertainment

Miwatj Health is an independent Aboriginal Community-Controlled Health Service. Established in 1992, we’re committed to securing quality health care services across the East Arnhem and enabling Yolŋu powered community health and wellbeing. Miwatj provides culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care to over 6,000 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander residents across 3 East Arnhem wards. With a Head Office in Nhulunbuy, Miwatj also manages a Corporate Office in Darwin, 7 fixed clinics across the East Arnhem region, and dedicated outreach teams who travel to 3 additional locations.
Essential Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Community Control and self-determination, as well as knowledge of the unique challenges faced by Yolngu people in remote settings. The candidate must have experience in delivering coordinated mental health services and culturally adapting evidence-based interventions for Aboriginal communities. A minimum of two years’ experience in Indigenous mental health and alcohol and other drug services, along with a current Ochre Card, driver’s license, and AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Aboriginal Health Practitioner, is required. A post-graduate qualification in Mental Health and a Certificate IV or equivalent in AOD is also essential.
