Umbakumba is part of the Anindilyakwa Land Trust. Although remote and isolated Groote Eylandt has a commercial air service which currently provides a daily direct route to Darwin NT and three weekly flights to Cairns, QLD.
The Yinumarra Health Centre provides primary health care services to residents of Umbakumba. Many residents of Umbakumba community experience high rates of Chronic Diseases and to combat the ill health of the community the centre staff provide clients with various health checks and assessments, with a Medical Officer based at the centre two to three days a week.
As Umbakumba is a very isolated location, the Centre provides a critical service for residents and visitors seeking emergency medical assistance by enabling access to emergency stabilisation and medical retrieval services. The Centre also provides a base for visiting medical specialists and other health providers and supports the visiting service by liaising with patients and facilitating client transportation.
The Manager oversees all operations of the centre, including, but not limited to, health programs and promotional activities, facility, human resourcing, equipment, and consumables management.
