The Role:

With a strong focus toward con­tin­u­ous­ly improv­ing qual­i­ty of nurs­ing care pro­vid­ed and ensur­ing patients and their fam­i­lies are involved in the plan­ning and imple­men­ta­tion of care. The facil­i­ty caters for emer­gency, acute and res­i­den­tial aged care and is an excel­lent oppor­tu­ni­ty to extend your prac­tice across a vari­ety of ser­vice provision. 

At the KIH­HC you will be able to

  • Focus on ongo­ing pro­fes­sion­al and career devel­op­ment in the con­text of Rur­al and Remote Health
  • Per­ma­nent role — relo­ca­tion allowance may be avail­able for right applicant
  • Enjoy work life bal­ance and explore the won­der­ful­ly remote island on your time off

We also offer a 6‑month Emer­gency Depart­ment Tran­si­tion Pro­gram (EDTP) for those nurs­es who are new to ED. The aim of the pro­gram is to pro­vide a sup­port­ed, high qual­i­ty, rel­e­vant, fast-track pro­gram, that gives staff the tools to work at a com­pe­tent lev­el with­in an Emer­gency Depart­ment. On suc­cess­ful com­ple­tion of all com­po­nents of the EDTP, those staff who enrol or are enrolled in the Uni­ver­si­ty of Tas­ma­nia Grad­u­ate Cer­tifi­cate of Emer­gency Nurs­ing, can apply to UTAS for one unit of cred­it (there are 4 units in the post-grad­u­ate certificate).

The Loca­tion:

With a pop­u­la­tion of approx­i­mate­ly 1600 peo­ple King Island is based in the Bass Strait between Vic­to­ria and north­west coast of Tas­ma­nia, and is well-known for world class cheese, fresh seafood, very clean air, and incred­i­ble surf­ing and golf. The Hos­pi­tal is locat­ed in Cur­rie which is King Island’s largest town and admin­is­tra­tive centre.

King Island Hos­pi­tal & Health Cen­tre has four acute care beds, a pal­lia­tive room with adjoin­ing fam­i­ly room, two emer­gency rooms, treat­ment room, out­pa­tients con­sult­ing rooms, 14 per­ma­nent res­i­den­tial aged care beds pro­vid­ing per­ma­nent and respite care.

Per­ma­nent full-time shift-work­er posi­tion work­ing 76 hours per fort­night com­menc­ing from when you are avail­able to join the team

*notwith­stand­ing hours to be nego­ti­at­ed with the suc­cess­ful applicant

Salary: $75,902 — $102,908 pro rata per annum + 11% super­an­nu­a­tion + access to salary packaging

You’ll have access to salary pack­age a range of ben­e­fits includ­ing liv­ing expens­es up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal enter­tain­ment each FBT year + oth­er ben­e­fits if eligible. 

In addi­tion, the fol­low­ing allowances cal­cu­lat­ed on the salaried incre­men­tal point may be available: 

  • Dis­trict Allowances of up to $2385.25 per annum for a family 
  • Remote and Rur­al Pro­fes­sion­al Devel­op­ment Allowance of $3,614 per annum and an addi­tion­al salary allowance of 10%
  • Post Grad­u­ate Allowance of up to 7.5% based on qual­i­fi­ca­tion type
  • Pro­fes­sion­al Devel­op­ment Allowance of up to $500 per annum
  • Access to the Grade 4 salary range $90,293 — $96,428 is sub­ject to suc­cess­ful appli­ca­tion for pro­gres­sion to Grade 4
  • Salary range is in accor­dance with Nurs­es and Mid­wives (Tas­man­ian State Ser­vice) Agree­ment 2023
