Layn­hapuy Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trolled Health Ser­vices is the sole provider of health ser­vices in twen­ty very remote Home­land com­mu­ni­ties locat­ed through 6500 km² of East Arn­hem Land.
Layn­hapuy Health works to enhance the health and well­be­ing of Yol­ngu peo­ple by pro­vid­ing holis­tic qual­i­ty pri­ma­ry health care deliv­ered in Home­land com­mu­ni­ties by cul­tur­al­ly com­pe­tent staff in part­ner­ship with peo­ple and their communities.
The Health ser­vice has its admin­is­tra­tive base in Yir­rkala and out­reach­es to deliv­er pri­ma­ry health and well­be­ing ser­vices to twen­ty of the Home­land communities.

What’s the role?
Teams of staff out­reach four days per week up to 220 km trav­el­ling by 4WD or light air­craft from Yir­rkala to deliv­er planned, pri­ori­tised health care, fol­low up on pre­vi­ous tele­phone triage and deal with walk in” appoint­ments and emer­gen­cies. Layn­hapuy employs Abo­rig­i­nal Health Work­ers who reside in their respec­tive Home­lands who pro­vide val­ued cul­tur­al and com­mu­ni­ty con­nec­tions and liaise with health staff between vis­its. As a remote area nurse, you will –
• Coor­di­nate and deliv­er care for clients, includ­ing those with chron­ic disease.
• Pro­vide assis­tance in the event of acci­dents and inci­dents, fol­low­ing emer­gency pro­ce­dures and protocols.
• Man­age an addi­tion­al port­fo­lio of respon­si­bil­i­ties based on ser­vice needs and indi­vid­ual skills, qual­i­fi­ca­tions and inter­ests (e.g. child and mater­nal health, client infor­ma­tion sys­tems, aged care and chron­ic disease).
• Work with­in CARPA guide­lines or for­mal­ly estab­lished pro­to­cols or under med­ical direction.
• Con­tribute to a capac­i­ty-build­ing approach that ensures the enhance­ment of the health and well-being of Yol­ngu in the Home­land communities.
• Con­tribute as part of a team to ensure that health ser­vices are deliv­ered in a cul­tur­al­ly com­pe­tent, effi­cient and­ef­fec­tive man­ner sup­port­ing the health and well-being needs of Yolngu.
• Under­take gen­er­al admin­is­tra­tive tasks asso­ci­at­ed with client man­age­ment and record keeping
• Par­tic­i­pate in and pro­vide pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment and men­tor­ing to Com­mu­ni­ty Health Work­ers and others.
• Par­tic­i­pate in Health Ser­vice Team activ­i­ties includ­ing con­tin­u­ous qual­i­ty improve­ment activ­i­ties and accred­i­ta­tion requirements.

Is the role right for you?
• Ter­tiary Qual­i­fi­ca­tion Degree with cur­rent AHPRA
• Knowl­edge of CARPA
• Expe­ri­ence work­ing in a Remote Setting
• Able to trav­el 4WD or light aircraft 
• A high lev­el of per­son­al fit­ness due to the phys­i­cal­ly demand­ing nature of remote work 
• Excel­lent inter­per­son­al skills and abil­i­ty to work with a diverse range of stakeholders 
• Demon­strat­ed inter­per­son­al skills, includ­ing high lev­el writ­ten and oral com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills
