Immunisations/vaccinations programs
Across Australia, requirements to be approved as a nurse or midwife immunisation provider differ vastly. Some states and territories require specific courses from specific university or health department based providers. Some require prescribed clinical immunisation experience. However, most jurisdictions accept a range of immunisation courses and list these publicly.
Health Education Services Australia (HESA) is currently accrediting immunisation courses. Accredited courses are transferable nationally. Direct links to individual state and territory requirements for authorisation to immunise are provided on the HESA website. If you have questions about your specific requirements, it is essential to contact the state or territory health department directly to discuss your requirements to ensure you make a training choice that meets your needs.
For up-to-date accredited course information, visit the HESA site.
For information about the courses accepted in the various states and territories, you can click through to the information relevant to individual states and territories from our resources page under the Immuniser Requirements section.
