Tell me more…The Clin­i­cal Nurse Con­sul­tant (CNC) posi­tions are per­ma­nent and offers the unique oppor­tu­ni­ty to work at Pri­ma­ry Health Care Cen­tres (PHCC) with­in the Tor­res Strait. The CNC will assist in the devel­op­ment and pro­vi­sion of Acute and Pri­ma­ry Health Care Ser­vices, men­tor­ing and sup­port­ing the pri­ma­ry health care clin­i­cians through­out North­ern TCHHS. Although recruit­ed pri­mar­i­ly to a Pri­ma­ry Health Care Cen­tre, the CNC may be required to work in any of the Pri­ma­ry Health Care Cen­tres on the out­er islands of the Tor­res Strait in response to oper­a­tional demands.

To be suc­cess­ful in this role you will have:

• Advanced knowl­edge of rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion includ­ing Health and Hos­pi­tals Net­work Act, Work­place Health and Safe­ty Act, and Equal Employ­ment Oppor­tu­ni­ty Leg­is­la­tion and oth­er rel­e­vant legislation.
• Advanced knowl­edge and extend­ed prac­tice in the appli­ca­tion of evi­denced based clin­i­cal man­age­ment, diag­nos­tic inves­ti­ga­tion, and phar­ma­co­log­i­cal man­age­ment of patients.
• Advanced lev­el com­mu­ni­ca­tion and inter­per­son­al skills includ­ing the abil­i­ty to con­sult liaise and nego­ti­ate with hos­pi­tal and com­mu­ni­ty health providers with­in the Tor­res Cape Hos­pi­tal and Health Ser­vice and beyond.
• Advanced lev­el of under­stand­ing of the Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander culture.
• Abil­i­ty to pro­vide advanced nurs­ing and clin­i­cal lead­er­ship across the mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary team that reflects the high­est pos­si­ble stan­dards of rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion and con­tem­po­rary mod­els of prac­tice which includes qual­i­ty improve­ment, nurs­ing research and pro­fes­sion­al development.

Require­ments for the role:

• Appoint­ment to this posi­tion requires proof of qual­i­fi­ca­tion and/​or registration/​endorsement with the appro­pri­ate reg­is­tra­tion author­i­ty or asso­ci­a­tion. Cer­ti­fied copies of the required infor­ma­tion must be pro­vid­ed to the appro­pri­ate supervisor/​manager, pri­or to com­mence­ment of clin­i­cal duties. Cur­rent reg­is­tra­tion with the Aus­tralian Health Prac­tice Reg­is­tra­tion Author­i­ty (APHRA) as a reg­is­tered nurse and cur­rent prac­tis­ing cer­tifi­cate is mandatory.
• RIPRN or sim­i­lar qual­i­fi­ca­tion or work­ing towards is high­ly desirable.
• Expe­ri­ence work­ing in an iso­lat­ed community.
