Tell me more…The Clin­i­cal Nurse Con­sul­tant pro­vides lead­er­ship and sup­port to oth­er nurs­ing staff and Abo­rig­i­nal and/​or Tor­res Strait health­care work­ers and is respon­si­ble for imple­ment­ing plans relat­ed to safe, con­sumer focussed oph­thalmic care in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Man­ag­er of the Mater­nal and Health Pro­gram and rel­e­vant others.

To be suc­cess­ful in this role you will have:

• Demon­strat­ed advanced lev­el of knowl­edge and clin­i­cal exper­tise in screen­ing and car­ing for oph­thalmic clients.
• Fos­ters a skills devel­op­ment pro­gram for Abo­rig­i­nal and/​or Tor­res Strait Islander Health Work­ers wish­ing to gain expe­ri­ence in eye health.
• Ini­ti­ate and par­tic­i­pate in research activ­i­ties designed to improve patient outcomes.
• High lev­el pro­fes­sion­al func­tion­ing that is flex­i­ble, inno­v­a­tive, and includes effec­tive communication.

Require­ments for the role:

• Appoint­ment to this posi­tion requires proof of qual­i­fi­ca­tion and/​or registration/​endorsement with the appro­pri­ate reg­is­tra­tion author­i­ty or asso­ci­a­tion. Cer­ti­fied copies of the required infor­ma­tion must be pro­vid­ed to the appro­pri­ate supervisor/​manager, pri­or to com­mence­ment of clin­i­cal duties. Cur­rent reg­is­tra­tion with the Aus­tralian Health Prac­tice Reg­is­tra­tion Author­i­ty (APHRA) as a reg­is­tered nurse and cur­rent prac­tis­ing cer­tifi­cate is mandatory.
• This posi­tion requires the incum­bent to oper­ate a patient retrieval vehi­cle (4WD) which requires a C Class Dri­vers Licence. An appro­pri­ate licence endorse­ment to oper­ate this type of vehi­cle is required. Proof of this endorse­ment must be pro­vid­ed before com­mence­ment of duty.
• Trav­el across the TCHHS will be a require­ment of this posi­tion in com­mer­cial and/​or light air­craft, 4WD vehi­cles and ferries.
