Estab­lished in 1998, Kather­ine West Health Board (KWHB) is an Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trolled organ­i­sa­tion that pro­vides a range of clin­i­cal, pre­ven­ta­tive and pub­lic health ser­vices to clients in the Kather­ine West Region of the North­ern Ter­ri­to­ry. With four major health care cen­tres and a range of satel­lite cen­tres, KWHB ser­vices an area over two times the size of Tas­ma­nia (162,000km²), help­ing to improve the health and well­be­ing of some of the most remote com­mu­ni­ties in Australia.

POSI­TION DESCRIP­TION

Kather­ine West Health Board (KWHB) is cur­rent­ly look­ing for a Heal­ing Spir­its Project Offi­cer to join their team for an oppor­tu­ni­ty in the Kather­ine West region in the NT. This posi­tion will be well suit­ed to some­one with expe­ri­ence in deliv­er­ing com­mu­ni­ty health pro­grams, prefer­ably in sui­cide pre­ven­tion or men­tal health. The role focus­es on direct com­mu­ni­ty engage­ment, con­duct­ing train­ing ses­sions, sup­port­ing the devel­op­ment of sui­cide pre­ven­tion resources, and con­tribut­ing to pol­i­cy devel­op­ment for region­al men­tal health ini­tia­tives. Your respon­si­bil­i­ties will include (but are not lim­it­ed to):

  • Assist in con­duct­ing needs assess­ments, includ­ing lit­er­a­ture reviews and com­mu­ni­ty con­sul­ta­tions, to doc­u­ment cur­rent pro­grams and resources.
  • Assist with the imple­men­ta­tion of the co-designed sui­cide pre­ven­tion inter­ven­tion plan through direct com­mu­ni­ty engagement.
  • Assist with the deliv­ery of Social and Emo­tion­al Well­be­ing (SEWB) edu­ca­tion ses­sions, includ­ing Abo­rig­i­nal Men­tal Health First Aid, trau­ma train­ing, and Dead­ly Think­ing Youth, across sev­en KWHB communities.
  • Work Col­lab­o­ra­tive­ly with oth­er pro­grams such as Social and Emo­tion­al Well­be­ing, Alco­hol and Oth­er Drugs and the Health Pro­mo­tion team.
