About Us

The Red Lily Health Board Abo­rig­i­nal Cor­po­ra­tion (RLHB) is a region­al health ser­vice that aims to empow­er Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple in the West Arn­hem region, seek­ing to address health issues in the com­mu­ni­ty with the long-term vision improv­ing health out­comes by estab­lish­ing a region­al Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ty-con­trolled mod­el of ser­vice delivery. 

About the Team

This posi­tion is a key role in the Red Lily Pri­ma­ry Health Care team that pro­vides pri­ma­ry health care to more than a 1000 peo­ple in the West Arn­hem region. Engage­ment and col­lab­o­ra­tion with oth­er com­mu­ni­ties and teams with­in Red Lily and beyond will be nec­es­sary to ensure that the com­mu­ni­ties receive high qual­i­ty ser­vices and achieve opti­mal out­comes. The role will work close­ly with the Region­al Mid­wife and Wom­en’s Health Educator.

About the role

You will work col­lab­o­ra­tive­ly with the remote health cen­tre teams, health ser­vice providers and key com­mu­ni­ty stake­hold­ers to ensure high qual­i­ty best prac­tice com­pre­hen­sive child health ser­vices for chil­dren and fam­i­lies liv­ing in the West Arn­hem ser­vice deliv­ery area (not includ­ing Maningrida). 

You will be part of the Red Lily Pri­ma­ry Health Care team and will assist remote com­mu­ni­ty-based staff to deliv­er qual­i­ty and com­pre­hen­sive child and ado­les­cent health pro­grams and care. This will be achieved through reg­u­lar remote site vis­its, and a com­bi­na­tion of capac­i­ty build­ing and man­age­ment of case­loads where rel­e­vant. Coor­di­na­tion with oth­er com­mu­ni­ties and teams with­in Red Lily, as well as exter­nal clin­i­cians and ser­vice providers, will be nec­es­sary to ensure that the com­mu­ni­ties receive high qual­i­ty ser­vices and achieve opti­mal outcomes. 

Key Respon­si­bil­i­ties

  • Improve child and ado­les­cent health by build­ing and main­tain­ing the capac­i­ty of pri­ma­ry health care staff in the deliv­ery of com­pre­hen­sive and cul­tur­al­ly safe health ser­vices and com­mu­ni­ty based pro­grams for young people.
  • Work in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the remote Pri­ma­ry Health Cen­tre teams to pro­vide clin­i­cal ser­vices and care relat­ing to child and ado­les­cent health that includes key screen­ing pro­grams for chil­dren, as direct­ed by the Pri­ma­ry Health Care Director.
  • Mon­i­tor the child and ado­les­cent health program/​s and port­fo­lios at each remote com­mu­ni­ty, util­is­ing KPI data and report­ing, with a pri­or­i­ty focus on effec­tive pro­gram deliv­ery for chil­dren aged 0 – 5, focus­ing on growth, development.
  • Men­tor and sup­port the ongo­ing pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment of pri­ma­ry health care prac­ti­tion­ers in the deliv­ery of child and ado­les­cent health pro­grams in remote com­mu­ni­ties; pro­vid­ing clin­i­cal over­sight and expertise.
  • Fol­low defined ser­vice qual­i­ty stan­dards, work health and safe­ty poli­cies and pro­ce­dures relat­ing to the work being under­tak­en in order to ensure high qual­i­ty, safe ser­vices and work­places, with par­tic­u­lar ref­er­ence to the suite of CARPA stan­dard treat­ment pro­to­col man­u­als and oth­er rel­e­vant NT clin­i­cal pro­to­cols and standards
  • Facil­i­tate, pro­mote and pro­vide train­ing to sup­port the deliv­ery of child health ser­vices for pri­ma­ry health care nurs­es Abo­rig­i­nal Health Prac­ti­tion­ers and midwives.
  • Coor­di­nate the devel­op­ment and pro­vi­sion of cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate health pro­mo­tion and health lit­er­a­cy pro­grams to chil­dren and their fam­i­lies, with local remote staff and key stakeholders.
  • Par­tic­i­pate in the review of best prac­tice guide­lines, Con­tin­u­ous Qual­i­ty Improve­ment and Abo­rig­i­nal Health Key Per­for­mance Indicators.
  • Man­age phys­i­cal resources with­in an allo­cat­ed bud­get for the program.
  • Par­tic­i­pate in the devel­op­ment, imple­men­ta­tion, and review of the Organ­i­sa­tion­al plan.

Key Selec­tion Criteria 

Essen­tial:

  1. Hold cur­rent reg­is­tra­tion as a Reg­is­tered Nurse with the Aus­tralian Health Prac­ti­tion­ers Reg­u­la­tion Authority.
  2. Exten­sive knowl­edge and expe­ri­ence in remote clin­i­cal prac­tice as it relates to child and ado­les­cent health, and an under­stand­ing of devel­op­ment and review process for clin­i­cal prac­tice guidelines.
  3. Knowl­edge of Abo­rig­i­nal child and Ado­les­cent health needs and pri­or­i­ties, and remote pri­ma­ry health care nurs­ing practice.
  4. An abil­i­ty to inter­act effec­tive­ly with peo­ple of dif­fer­ent cul­tures with a demon­strat­ed under­stand­ing of issues affect­ing Abo­rig­i­nal health cul­tur­al issues; cul­tur­al safe­ty and social deter­mi­nants issues.
  5. Demon­strat­ed expe­ri­ence in devel­op­ment and deliv­ery of edu­ca­tion and train­ing to strength­en and sus­tain a cul­ture of con­tin­u­ous learning.
  6. Knowl­edge and expe­ri­ence in imple­men­ta­tion of Pri­ma­ry Health Care pro­grams and the rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion gov­ern­ing work prac­tice in the remote setting.
  7. Proven lead­er­ship abil­i­ty and high-lev­el com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills to effec­tive­ly engage with a range of stake­hold­ers in the remote pri­ma­ry health care setting.
  8. Under­stand­ing of issues affect­ing Abo­rig­i­nal health, dri­vers of health inequal­i­ty, prin­ci­ples of pri­ma­ry health care and rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion gov­ern­ing work prac­tice in the North­ern Territory.
  9. Eli­gi­bil­i­ty for an NT man­u­al driver’s license, and a will­ing­ness and abil­i­ty to trav­el on a week­ly basis to West Arn­hem com­mu­ni­ties (exclud­ing Man­ingri­da) by either 4×4 or light air­craft and stay for up to a max­i­mum of 4 – 5 days as required.
  10. High­ly devel­oped inter­per­son­al, com­plex prob­lem solv­ing, writ­ten, ver­bal and IT com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills.

Desir­able skills:

  1. Post Grad­u­ate qual­i­fi­ca­tions in Child Health.
  2. Hold post grad­u­ate qual­i­fi­ca­tions in rel­e­vant qual­i­fi­ca­tions in child health, edu­ca­tion, sex­u­al health and work­place assess­ment and training.
  3. Demon­strat­ed expe­ri­ence work­ing as a Remote Area Nurse in a remote indige­nous context.
  4. Demon­strat­ed abil­i­ty and expe­ri­ence in the man­age­ment of a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team.
  5. Appro­pri­ate post grad­u­ate qual­i­fi­ca­tion in Pub­lic Health / Pri­ma­ry Health Care or addi­tion­al cer­tifi­cates in Child Health, Emer­gency, Mid­wifery, or Men­tal Health.
  6. Busi­ness-relat­ed qualification.

Posi­tion spe­cif­ic require­ments:

  • Hold (or eli­gi­ble for) an NT man­u­al dri­vers’ license
  • NLC Land Coun­cil work permit
  • Will­ing­ness to trav­el by air and 4WD to remote com­mu­ni­ties, pre­pared­ness to relieve oth­er nurs­ing posi­tions by arrangement.
  • Employ­ment with Red Lily Health will be con­di­tion­al on the employ­ee pro­vid­ing NT Work­ing with Chil­dren Check and sat­is­fac­to­ry police clearance.
