Remote Area Midwife

Location: Kutjungka region WA
KAMS now has an opportunity for a Remote Area Midwife to join their friendly, multidisciplinary team in the Kutjungka region (Balgo, Mulan, Billiluna), WA, on a full-time basis, 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off.
Reporting to the Clinic Manager, you’ll be responsible for the coordination and delivery of comprehensive midwifery and primary health care services within the Kutjungka region. This position will also be required to provide emergency care within the Balgo community when necessary, on a rostered on-call basis after hours.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Provide professional, evidence-based midwifery and primary health care to individuals, families and the community utilising a holistic and culturally acceptable approach.
- Provide support and enable early access to a midwife and GP for a holistic assessment of their pregnancy, risks and choices.
- Undertake Well Women’s Health checks routinely and opportunistically.
- Refer postnatal clients to and collaborate with the Kutjungka Child Health Nurse to ensure a streamlined and integrated health care journey for the mother, child and family.
- Perform Enhanced Aboriginal Child Health checks when Kutjungka Child Health Nurse not available or as required.
The ideal candidate will be a Registered Midwife, who is registered or is eligible for registration with, AHPRA. You’ll have the demonstrated ability to provide quality healthcare, including emergency care, with a minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience, with experience in the planning, provision, management and evaluation of maternal health services within an Indigenous primary health care setting.
Ideally, you would have lived and/or worked as a Nurse in a remote area previously, with a commitment to the principals of an Aboriginal community controlled health service and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. A high level of integrity and a dedication to maintaining patient confidentiality will ensure you flourish in this position.
Experience with clinical database systems and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel will be highly regarded. Due to the nature of this role, a current manual driver’s licence with the capacity to drive a 4WD is required. Additionally, you will need to be able to travel by light aircraft.

- On call loading (25% of base salary);
- District allowance $2,740 p.a.;
- Isolation airfare reimbursement $2,000;
- Isolation leave of 2 weeks every 6 weeks in the community;
- Annual airfares subsidy to the value of $1,285 p.a. (after 12 months of service);
- 5 weeks leave p.a; and
- Accommodation provided whilst in community.
