KAMS now has an opportunity for a Remote Area Midwife to join their friendly, multidisciplinary team in the Kutjungka region (Balgo, Mulan, Billiluna), WA, on a full-time basis, 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off.

Report­ing to the Clin­ic Man­ag­er, you’ll be respon­si­ble for the coor­di­na­tion and deliv­ery of com­pre­hen­sive mid­wifery and pri­ma­ry health care ser­vices with­in the Kutjung­ka region. This posi­tion will also be required to pro­vide emer­gency care with­in the Bal­go com­mu­ni­ty when nec­es­sary, on a ros­tered on-call basis after hours.

Some of your key respon­si­bil­i­ties will include:

  • Pro­vide pro­fes­sion­al, evi­dence-based mid­wifery and pri­ma­ry health care to indi­vid­u­als, fam­i­lies and the com­mu­ni­ty util­is­ing a holis­tic and cul­tur­al­ly accept­able approach.
  • Pro­vide sup­port and enable ear­ly access to a mid­wife and GP for a holis­tic assess­ment of their preg­nan­cy, risks and choices.
  • Under­take Well Women’s Health checks rou­tine­ly and opportunistically.
  • Refer post­na­tal clients to and col­lab­o­rate with the Kutjung­ka Child Health Nurse to ensure a stream­lined and inte­grat­ed health care jour­ney for the moth­er, child and family.
  • Per­form Enhanced Abo­rig­i­nal Child Health checks when Kutjung­ka Child Health Nurse not avail­able or as required.

The ide­al can­di­date will be a Reg­is­tered Mid­wife, who is reg­is­tered or is eli­gi­ble for reg­is­tra­tion with, AHPRA. You’ll have the demon­strat­ed abil­i­ty to pro­vide qual­i­ty health­care, includ­ing emer­gency care, with a min­i­mum of 5 years post-grad­u­ate expe­ri­ence, with expe­ri­ence in the plan­ning, pro­vi­sion, man­age­ment and eval­u­a­tion of mater­nal health ser­vices with­in an Indige­nous pri­ma­ry health care setting.

Ide­al­ly, you would have lived and/​or worked as a Nurse in a remote area pre­vi­ous­ly, with a com­mit­ment to the prin­ci­pals of an Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ty con­trolled health ser­vice and the abil­i­ty to work both autonomous­ly and as part of a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team. A high lev­el of integri­ty and a ded­i­ca­tion to main­tain­ing patient con­fi­den­tial­i­ty will ensure you flour­ish in this position.

Expe­ri­ence with clin­i­cal data­base sys­tems and pro­fi­cien­cy with Microsoft Word and Excel will be high­ly regard­ed. Due to the nature of this role, a cur­rent man­u­al driver’s licence with the capac­i­ty to dri­ve a 4WD is required. Addi­tion­al­ly, you will need to be able to trav­el by light aircraft.

While you will face diverse new chal­lenges in the role, you will also enjoy an attrac­tive salary pack­age includ­ing a base salary of $120,292 plus super and a fur­ther host of ben­e­fits, including:

  • On call load­ing (25% of base salary);
  • Dis­trict allowance $2,740 p.a.;
  • Iso­la­tion air­fare reim­burse­ment $2,000;
  • Iso­la­tion leave of 2 weeks every 6 weeks in the community;
  • Annu­al air­fares sub­sidy to the val­ue of $1,285 p.a. (after 12 months of service);
  • 5 weeks leave p.a; and
  • Accom­mo­da­tion pro­vid­ed whilst in community.
