Con­tracts for RANs aver­age from just a few weeks to 3 months (some­times longer!) with free or sub­sidised accom­mo­da­tion and travel.

Essen­tial criteria: 

Remote Area Nurse (RANs) must be able to work autonomous­ly in demand­ing sit­u­a­tions and are often required to be on call after hours in many clinics.

• Pre­vi­ous expe­ri­ence work­ing in a pri­ma­ry health clin­ic or small rur­al facility
• Must have strong Emer­gency expe­ri­ence and the abil­i­ty to work on-call
• Expe­ri­ence in chron­ic dis­ease man­age­ment, sutur­ing, phle­boto­my and wound care is valuable
• Cur­rent man­u­al driver’s license
• Cur­rent ALS, PALS, REC and MEC/MIDUS cer­tifi­cates and state rel­e­vant immu­ni­sa­tion endorse­ments are manda­to­ry for some districts
• Nurs­ing degree and a min­i­mum of two years clin­i­cal nurs­ing expe­ri­ence as a Reg­is­tered Nurse in Aus­tralia, post-graduation
• Cur­rent, unre­strict­ed AHPRA registration
