About the Opportunities 

Nganam­pa Health Coun­cil is seek­ing clin­ic-based Reg­is­tered Nurs­es and Reg­is­tered Mid­wives (dual reg­is­tra­tion required) to join their ded­i­cat­ed teams in South Aus­tralia.

In these high­ly var­ied roles, you will deliv­er pri­ma­ry health­care in accor­dance with the CARPA Stan­dard Treat­ment Man­u­al, and assist in the ear­ly detec­tion and man­age­ment of chron­ic ill­ness as part of a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team.

Work­ing under the direc­tion of the Med­ical Direc­tor and Clin­i­cal Ser­vice Man­ag­er, your respon­si­bil­i­ties will include:

  • Col­lab­o­rat­ing with med­ical offi­cers, pro­gram staff, Anan­gu staff, and oth­er health per­son­nel to pro­vide pri­ma­ry healthcare
  • Treat­ing acute ill­ness­es and chron­ic med­ical con­di­tions, man­ag­ing com­put­erised recalls, and con­duct­ing patient fol­low-up care
  • Child health mon­i­tor­ing and immunisations
  • Admin­is­ter­ing adult and COVID-19 vac­ci­na­tions across all age groups
  • Deliv­er­ing patient health education
  • Assess­ing and refer­ring social wel­fare issues
  • Con­duct­ing pub­lic health screen­ings for com­mu­ni­ca­ble dis­eases includ­ing STIs, HIV/AIDS, Hepati­tis A, B, and C
  • Man­ag­ing ante­na­tal and post­na­tal care
  • Sup­port­ing job spe­cif­ic edu­ca­tion for train­ing Anan­gu staff
  • Per­form­ing day-to-day clin­ic admin­is­tra­tion tasks


About You

We are look­ing for expe­ri­enced RNs or RN-Mid­wives pas­sion­ate about equal qual­i­ty care for all. The abil­i­ty to com­mu­ni­cate and par­tic­i­pate effec­tive­ly with­in a cross-cul­tur­al, mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary health team and a demon­strat­ed under­stand­ing of issues affect­ing Abo­rig­i­nal health will be beneficial.

Our suc­cess­ful can­di­dates will:

  • Be a Reg­is­tered Nurse or an RN and Reg­is­tered Mid­wife, reg­is­tered with the Nation­al Board of Nurs­ing and Midwifery
  • Have at least 3 years of post-grad­u­a­tion work expe­ri­ence, with recent acute medical/A&E exposure
  • Have demon­strat­ed expe­ri­ence work­ing in a clin­i­cal envi­ron­ment and hos­pi­tal-based gen­er­al nurs­ing expe­ri­ence in the past 3 years (both of which are essential)
  • Hold post-basic nurs­ing qual­i­fi­ca­tions in emer­gency care, advanced nurs­ing, or rural/​remote area nurs­ing (desir­able but not essential)
  • Be high­ly com­put­er lit­er­ate, as health records are ful­ly digital
  • Dis­play strong cul­tur­al aware­ness and respect
  • Have advanced clin­i­cal skills and con­fi­dence in man­ag­ing diverse patient pre­sen­ta­tions, includ­ing trau­ma, acute, and chron­ic con­di­tions across all age groups

Mid­wives must have sig­nif­i­cant expe­ri­ence in acute gen­er­al work with­in the past 5 years.

These posi­tions are based in busy com­mu­ni­ty clin­ics that are open from 9 am to 5:30 pm Mon­day to Fri­day. Nurs­es do pro­vide an after-hours on-call ser­vice, and you will require advanced nurs­ing clin­i­cal skills includ­ing excel­lent clin­i­cal assess­ment skills and con­fi­dence in man­ag­ing diver­si­ty in pre­sen­ta­tions — trau­ma, acute and chron­ic med­ical con­di­tions — across all age groups. 

Nganam­pa Health Coun­cil is seek­ing adapt­able and flex­i­ble indi­vid­u­als who can dis­play the ini­tia­tive, dis­cre­tion and cul­tur­al sen­si­tiv­i­ty need­ed to sup­port and dri­ve the organ­i­sa­tion’s objec­tives and val­ues. Can­di­dates who are open to change, accept­ing of Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple, com­fort­able liv­ing in a remote envi­ron­ment and who are will­ing to learn the ways of the peo­ple will be well suit­ed to this position.

The abil­i­ty to work under Abo­rig­i­nal man­age­ment and con­trol will be high­ly regard­ed, as will a demon­strat­ed under­stand­ing of issues affect­ing Abo­rig­i­nal health, the prin­ci­ples of Pri­ma­ry Health Care and rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion. No two days will be the same and as a result, high­ly resource­ful can­di­dates will thrive here!

Please note: Suc­cess­ful can­di­dates must under­go a Police Check and a Work­ing With Chil­dren Check. A man­u­al dri­ver’s licence is essen­tial, and famil­iar­i­ty with 4WD vehi­cles is advan­ta­geous (4WD train­ing is pro­vid­ed dur­ing orientation).
