About the Opportunity 

Embrace the flex­i­bil­i­ty of casu­al work while pro­vid­ing essen­tial health­care ser­vices to remote Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ties, includ­ing Jiga­long, Parn­ngurr, Pun­mu, and Kunawar­ritji, with the oppor­tu­ni­ty to make a sig­nif­i­cant impact on their health and well-being outcomes.

This is a Recruit­ment Pool for causal Remote Area Nurses.

This pool will be used to fill nurs­es leave gaps and vacan­cies in the Remote Clin­i­cal Ser­vices Team.

Some of the key respon­si­bil­i­ties include:

  • Deliv­er com­pre­hen­sive pri­ma­ry health care, includ­ing emer­gency response, chron­ic dis­ease man­age­ment, and health edu­ca­tion, tai­lored to the needs of patients.
  • Col­lab­o­rate with a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team to ensure holis­tic and cul­tur­al­ly sen­si­tive health­care delivery.
  • Adapt to diverse clin­i­cal sit­u­a­tions with auton­o­my and resource­ful­ness, pro­vid­ing high-qual­i­ty care in vary­ing settings.

About you

To be con­sid­ered as a casu­al Remote Area Nurse, you must have:

  • Cur­rent Reg­is­tra­tion with the Aus­tralian Health Prac­ti­tion­er Reg­u­la­tion Agency as a Reg­is­tered Nurse with a min­i­mum of three (3) years post reg­is­tra­tion experience
  • Demon­strat­ed abil­i­ty to prac­tice in accor­dance with the Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Board of Aus­tralia (NMBA’s) Code of Con­duct of Reg­is­tered Nurs­es and Stan­dards of Prac­tice for Reg­is­tered Nurses
  • Expe­ri­ence, skills and knowl­edge work­ing in a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team in a pri­ma­ry health care set­ting includ­ing team­work and con­flict management
  • Well-devel­oped pri­ma­ry health care skills and clear under­stand­ing of the scope of prac­tice of the Remote Area Nurse
  • Sound under­stand­ing of the prin­ci­ples of pri­ma­ry health care and the mod­el of Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trolled Health Services
  • A respect for Abo­rig­i­nal cul­ture and demon­strat­ed abil­i­ty to prac­tice in a cul­tur­al­ly safe and appro­pri­ate manner
  • Demon­strat­ed under­stand­ing of issues affect­ing remote Abo­rig­i­nal health and dri­vers of health inequality
  • Excel­lent writ­ten and oral com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills
  • Pre­vi­ous expe­ri­ence work­ing with elec­tron­ic patient infor­ma­tion man­age­ment sys­tems( prefer­ably Communicare)
  • Cur­rent Phar­ma­cother­a­peu­tics for Nurs­es Cer­tifi­cate (or will­ing­ness to obtain)
  • Cur­rent Nation­al Immu­ni­sa­tion Pro­gram Cer­tifi­cate (or will­ing­ness to obtain)
  • Cur­rent advance life sup­port (with­in 2 years)
  • Cur­rent CPR (with­in 1 year) 
  • Cur­rent Remote Emer­gency Care (REC) Cer­tifi­cate and/​or Mater­ni­ty Emer­gency Care (MEC) (both with­in 2 years) 
  • Evi­dence of COVID-19 vaccinations 

Must be flex­i­ble to work in the com­mu­ni­ties of Parn­ngurr, Pun­mu, Jiga­long and Kunawar­ritji as need­ed to ensure the qual­i­ty of ser­vices as direct­ed by the Remote Ser­vices Man­ag­er and / or Direc­tor of Clin­i­cal Services.

Desir­able:

  • The per­son is of Abo­rig­i­nal and/​or Tor­res Strait Islander descent and is acknowl­edged as such by their community
  • i‑STAT point of care qual­i­fi­ca­tion (or will­ing­ness to obtain) 
  • Fur­ther qual­i­fi­ca­tions in the areas of pri­ma­ry health care includ­ing chron­ic dis­ease, men­tal health, child health, dia­betes edu­ca­tion, wound care, mid­wifery or oth­er rel­e­vant area, and
  • Knowl­edge of Medicare and its appli­ca­tion to the Abo­rig­i­nal pri­ma­ry health care setting.

The posi­tion involves work­ing with a mul­ti­cul­tur­al organ­i­sa­tion where the major­i­ty of staff, clients and stake­hold­ers iden­ti­fy as Abo­rig­i­nal or Tor­res Strait Islander. Can­di­dates must be able to demon­strate an under­stand­ing of the issues affect­ing Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander peo­ple and their abil­i­ty to com­mu­ni­cate sen­si­tive­ly and effec­tive­ly with Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander people.

About the Pun­tukur­nu Abo­rig­i­nal Med­ical Service

Pun­tukur­nu Abo­rig­i­nal Med­ical Ser­vice is an Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trolled Health Ser­vice locat­ed in the East Pil­bara region, deliv­er­ing cul­tur­al­ly respon­sive and appro­pri­ate com­pre­hen­sive pri­ma­ry health care ser­vices to the com­mu­ni­ties of Jiga­long, Parn­ngurr, Pun­mu, Kunawar­ritji, and Newman.

Appli­cants for this posi­tion must be legal­ly enti­tled to work in Aus­tralia and will be required to pro­vide evi­dence of this enti­tle­ment. Accept­able evi­dence includes an Aus­tralian or New Zealand pass­port, birth cer­tifi­cate, or for­eign pass­port with rel­e­vant visa.

PAMS oper­ates in some of the most remote parts of Aus­tralia and staff are required to be pro­fi­cient at dri­ving a 4WD vehi­cle and will­ing to fly in light aircraft.

Screen­ing and assess­ment will com­mence immediately. 

Suit­able appli­cants will be placed in a pool from which appoint­ments may be made when sim­i­lar vacan­cies occur. Appoint­ments may be made from this pool until XXX (sug­gest a 12 month period).
