The Child Health Nurse is accountable to the Clinical Lead – Newman and is accountable to the Director of Clinical Services and is primarily responsible for providing a family-centred, comprehensive child health service to clients of the Newman Clinic serviced by Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Services (PAMS).

About You
To be considered for this position, you must have:
Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with Australian Heath Practitioner Health Agency;
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Child and Family Health nursing and/or minimum of two years previous experience working in a Child, Family and School Health Nurse or similar role;
- Completion of the SA Understanding Vaccines and National Immunisation Program course and annual updates since completion or be willing to complete within 6 weeks of commencement in the role. Previous experience working in a multi-disciplinary primary health care team with a demonstrated ability and desire to effectively engage with Aboriginal children and their families
- Sound understanding of the principles of primary health care and the model of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service;
- Knowledge and experience in the provision of child health programs.
- Experience in electronic patient information management systems
DESIRABLE:
- The person is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander decent and is acknowledged as such by their community.
- Post Graduate qualifications in Child Health.
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Midwife
- An advanced knowledge of Communicare including the ability to produce reports and recall lists

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with remote Aboriginal communities and make a drastic impact to the health and well-being outcomes of these communities.
PAMS operates five sites, four of which are remote and managed by a team of clinicians and a range of ancillary workers. Although the successful candidates will have a substantive location in Jigalong they must be prepared from time to time to work across any one of these sites should they be required.
PAMS operates in some of the most remote parts of Australia and staff are required to be proficient at driving a 4WD vehicle and willing to fly in light aircraft.

With an administrative hub based in Newman, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, The Puntukurnu Aboriginal Medical Service (PAMS) provides holistic primary health care to the individuals and families within the remote communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji.
PAMS aims to improve the standard of health of the Martu people and all Aboriginal people living in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia through the provision of community based, comprehensive primary health care services. We exist to promote the health and well-being of individual community members and to relieve sickness and the suffering of the indigenous community as a whole. We are passionate about providing the highest standard of patient care whilst incorporating a holistic approach toward diagnosis and management of illness.
