Are you a Mental Health Nurse seeking to make a real impact in the field of Older Persons' Mental Health care!

The role offers involve­ment in a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team where you’ll be able to deliv­er evi­dence-based, high-qual­i­ty ser­vices to the Com­mu­ni­ty, work­ing with both phys­i­cal and men­tal health aspects. Plus, there’s an empha­sis on growth with a major reform ini­tia­tive under­way, which is an excit­ing part of this position.

The Team: Old­er Per­sons Men­tal Health Ser­vice (OPMHS)

  • Focus: The role revolves around pro­vid­ing com­pre­hen­sive care that inte­grates both phys­i­cal and men­tal health for old­er adults. This involves offer­ing ser­vices in the com­mu­ni­ty to help clients nav­i­gate their phys­i­cal and men­tal health needs.
  • Cur­rent Reform: OPMHS is under­go­ing a sig­nif­i­cant reform, which means the depart­ment is expand­ing and cre­at­ing new posi­tions to strength­en ser­vices. It’s a great time to join, as there’s a chance to con­tribute to shap­ing the ser­vice mov­ing forward.

The Role: Pri­ma­ry Respon­si­bil­i­ties:

  • Nurs­ing Care: You’ll be respon­si­ble for pro­vid­ing safe, high-qual­i­ty, clin­i­cal­ly appro­pri­ate nurs­ing care that aligns with the Aus­tralian Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Board (NMBA) stan­dards. This includes work­ing close­ly with patients/​clients, their fam­i­lies, and oth­er health­care providers to ensure the best pos­si­ble outcomes.
  • Mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary Team­work: You will be part of a team that deliv­ers spe­cial­ized men­tal health ser­vices with­in the com­mu­ni­ty, sup­port­ing indi­vid­u­als with men­tal health chal­lenges. This includes using evi­dence-based prac­tices and recov­ery principles.
  • Client Care: The role involves pro­vid­ing men­tal health ser­vices that address both men­tal and phys­i­cal health needs, con­duct­ing assess­ments, case man­age­ment, and inter­ven­ing dur­ing crises.
  • Spe­cif­ic Tasks: Con­duct holis­tic men­tal health and phys­i­cal health assess­ments, Triage and man­age Men­tal Health crises, Offer case man­age­ment ser­vices, ensur­ing that Patients receive ongo­ing care and sup­port, Col­lab­o­rate with oth­er health­care Pro­fes­sion­als, includ­ing those in Pri­ma­ry Care and Men­tal Health ser­vices, Utilise recov­ery-based prac­tices and ensure that care is Patient-cen­tered, Devel­op and imple­ment qual­i­ty improve­ment strate­gies to enhance ser­vice delivery.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Nurs­ing Knowl­edge: Strong knowl­edge of nurs­ing prin­ci­ples and the abil­i­ty to apply them to patient care, fol­low­ing the NMBA Reg­is­tered Nurs­es standards.
  2. Men­tal Health Exper­tise: Exper­tise in Men­tal Health Nurs­ing, includ­ing case man­age­ment, cri­sis inter­ven­tion, and clin­i­cal risk management.
  3. Com­mu­ni­ca­tion Skills: Excel­lent writ­ten, ver­bal, and inter­per­son­al com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills. You’ll need to work well in a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team and com­mu­ni­cate with patients, fam­i­lies, and oth­er health­care providers.
  4. Cri­sis Inter­ven­tion & Risk Man­age­ment: Com­fort and expe­ri­ence with man­ag­ing men­tal health crises and clin­i­cal risk, includ­ing assess­ments and plan­ning for inter­ven­tions in high-pres­sure situations.
  5. Desir­able Qual­i­fi­ca­tions: A spe­cial­ist ter­tiary or post­grad­u­ate qual­i­fi­ca­tion in men­tal health/​psychiatric nurs­ing is pre­ferred but not mandatory.

Employ­ment Details:

  • Posi­tion Type: Per­ma­nent, full-time, day work­er role.
  • Hours: 76 hours per fort­night (with some flex­i­bil­i­ty on the schedule).
  • Salary: $78,179 to $105,995 per annum, based on expe­ri­ence and qual­i­fi­ca­tions. There’s also the pos­si­bil­i­ty to move up to the Grade 4 salary range ($99,455-$105,995).
  • Super­an­nu­a­tion: The employ­er offers an 11.5% super­an­nu­a­tion con­tri­bu­tion on top of the salary.
  • Addi­tion­al Allowances: Post-grad­u­ate allowance (up to 10% depend­ing on qual­i­fi­ca­tions) and salary pack­ag­ing ben­e­fits, includ­ing meal and enter­tain­ment expenses.
