The Nurse Unit Manager: 

  • Pro­vides lead­er­ship to the Depart­ment of Emer­gency Med­i­cine, Mersey Com­mu­ni­ty Hos­pi­tal (MCH).
  • Ensures the effi­cient and effec­tive pro­vi­sion of care, based on clin­i­cal stan­dards and best prac­tice prin­ci­ples with­in a col­lab­o­ra­tive and mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary frame­work by coor­di­nat­ing the clin­i­cal, man­age­ment, edu­ca­tion and nurs­ing research func­tions with­in the Depart­ment of Emer­gency Med­i­cine; and 
  • Leads and man­ages the coor­di­na­tion of over­all patient care and is respon­si­ble for man­ag­ing the allo­cat­ed human, mate­r­i­al and finan­cial resources for ser­vice deliv­ery with­in the Depart­ment of Emer­gency Medicine.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and men­tor nurs­ing staff across all emer­gency depart­ment shifts
  • Over­see clin­i­cal oper­a­tions and ensure com­pli­ance with safe­ty protocols
  • Col­lab­o­rate with mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary teams to opti­mise patient outcomes
  • Man­age staffing sched­ules and resource allocation
  • Dri­ve qual­i­ty improve­ment ini­tia­tives and evi­dence-based practice
  • Sup­port staff devel­op­ment through coach­ing and pro­fes­sion­al growth opportunities

What We’re Look­ing For:

  • Cur­rent reg­is­tra­tion with AHPRA as a Reg­is­tered Nurse
  • Sub­stan­tial expe­ri­ence in emer­gency or acute care nursing
  • Proven lead­er­ship expe­ri­ence in clin­i­cal settings
  • Strong com­mu­ni­ca­tion and inter­per­son­al skills
  • Com­mit­ment to con­tin­u­ous learn­ing and pro­fes­sion­al development
  • Abil­i­ty to remain calm and make sound deci­sions under pressure

Details of appointment:

Per­ma­nent full time, day work­er posi­tion, work­ing up to 76 hours per fort­night, com­menc­ing from 21 Feb­ru­ary 2026. *notwith­stand­ing hours to be nego­ti­at­ed with the suc­cess­ful applicant.

Appli­cants should note that, for a peri­od of twelve months from the date of pub­li­ca­tion, this selec­tion process may be used to fill sub­se­quent or sim­i­lar full time, part time, and casu­al vacancies.

Salary: $130,203 to $136,295 per annum. Our Employ­er 12% super­an­nu­a­tion con­tri­bu­tion is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accor­dance with Nurs­es and Mid­wives (Tas­ma­nia State Ser­vice) Agree­ment 2023.

In addi­tion, the fol­low­ing allowances cal­cu­lat­ed on the salaried incre­men­tal point may be available: 

  • Post Grad­u­ate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qual­i­fi­ca­tion type

Salary Pack­ag­ing:

You’ll have access to salary pack­age a range of ben­e­fits includ­ing liv­ing expens­es up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal enter­tain­ment each FBT year + oth­er ben­e­fits if eligible. 

Ben­e­fits avail­able to eli­gi­ble candidates:

  • Trav­el and relo­ca­tion assis­tance sup­port avail­able up to $15,000 for eli­gi­ble appointees from over­seas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
