Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Project Coordinator - Youth DFSV Early Intervention. This position is for a male Project Coordinator, who will work primarily with male community members and young men from the Katherine West region in alignment with cultural protocols. The position will be well suited to someone with a tertiary degree (or equivalent) in Social Work, Youth Work, Outdoor Education, Community Development or related field.

Estab­lished in 1998, Kather­ine West Health Board is an Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trolled Health Organ­i­sa­tion that pro­vides a range of clin­i­cal, pre­ven­ta­tive and pub­lic health ser­vices to clients in the Kather­ine West Region of the North­ern Ter­ri­to­ry. With four major health care cen­tres and a range of satel­lite cen­tres, KWHB ser­vices an area over two times the size of Tas­ma­nia (162,000km²), help­ing to improve the health and well­be­ing of some of the most remote com­mu­ni­ties in Australia. 

Posi­tion Description

About the Opportunity

Kather­ine West Health Board has a been fund­ed for a proac­tive pro­gram sup­port­ing ear­ly inter­ven­tion for 11 – 17 year old males at risk of Domes­tic Fam­i­ly & Sex­u­al Vio­lence (DFSV). The Project Coor­di­na­tor will sup­port two project offi­cers to engage com­mu­ni­ty mem­bers for a co-design approach for the pro­gram. The role is instru­men­tal in the imple­men­ta­tion and deliv­ery, as well as eval­u­a­tion of the program. 

Respon­si­bil­i­ties will include (but not lim­it­ed to):

  • Pro­vide cul­tur­al­ly safe and ther­a­peu­tic social care to male Abo­rig­i­nal young peo­ple in remote communities.
  • Engage with com­mu­ni­ty mem­bers, Abo­rig­i­nal staff and local stake­hold­ers to devel­op a cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate pro­gram that address­es the dri­vers of vio­lence, pri­ori­tis­ing the safe­ty of victim-survivors.
  • Plan, deliv­er and lead a series of cul­tur­al­ly safe dry sea­son bush camps with young Abo­rig­i­nal men across the KWHB region, in part­ner­ship with the Kather­ine Women’s Infor­ma­tion and Legal Service.
  • Plan, deliv­er and lead a series of cul­tur­al­ly safe wet sea­son activ­i­ties – includ­ing those relat­ed to health, well­be­ing, heal­ing and skill devel­op­ment – with young Abo­rig­i­nal men across the KWHB region, in part­ner­ship with the Kather­ine Women’s Infor­ma­tion and Legal Service.
