Mala’la Health Service is seeking an experienced Remote Area Nurse to coordinate and assist in the provision of timely, culturally appropriate, condition specific care through Visiting and Specialist Services.

The posi­tion is to be the main point of con­tact for the organ­i­sa­tion of Spe­cial­ist Ser­vices includ­ing Case Con­fer­ence, Tele­health and Out­reach Visits.

Key Respon­si­bil­i­ties

  • Work with­in the Vis­it­ing Spe­cial­ist Ser­vices Pro­gram in part­ner­ship with the mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary team to pro­vide high qual­i­ty pre­ven­tion and treatment
  • Iden­ti­fy and pri­ori­tise clients’ needs by work­ing col­lab­o­ra­tive­ly with oth­er Health Pro­grams, Com­mu­ni­ty Health Work­ers and the broad­er Community
  • Pro­vide a cul­tur­al­ly safe, com­pe­tent and com­pre­hen­sive care
  • Devel­op and main­tain a strong refer­ral pathway
  • Work with the broad­er team includ­ing exter­nal agencies

About Mala’la

Mala’la Health Ser­vice is a respect­ed & accred­it­ed Abo­rig­i­nal Cor­po­ra­tion pro­vid­ing ser­vices to the sea­side com­mu­ni­ty of Man­ingri­da (520 km east of Dar­win), with a pop­u­la­tion of approx­i­mate­ly 3,000 peo­ple. These ser­vices include Pri­ma­ry Health Care, Aged & Com­mu­ni­ty Care, Fam­i­ly & Com­mu­ni­ty Well­ness, Drugs & Alco­hol Ser­vices. Mala’la Health Ser­vice pro­vides Pri­ma­ry Health Care ser­vices to Man­ingri­da and sur­round­ing home­lands under a Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trol model. 

Essen­tial Requirements

The role will see you work­ing in a remote Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty. All appli­cants must have an under­stand­ing of, and com­mit­ment to Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trol, self-deter­mi­na­tion, and the issues faced by Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple liv­ing in remote settings.

  • Cur­rent AHPRA Reg­is­tra­tion and Prac­tic­ing Cer­tifi­cate as a Reg­is­tered Nurse
  • Cur­rent Mater­ni­ty or Remote Emer­gency Care Certificate 
  • Advance Life Sup­port Certificate
  • Cur­rent accred­it­ed Immu­ni­sa­tion Cer­tifi­cate (recog­nised in the NT)
  • Remote Phar­ma­cother­a­peu­tic Cer­tifi­cate (or equivalent)
  • Man­u­al Driver’s License
  • Sat­is­fac­to­ry Crim­i­nal His­to­ry Check
  • Cur­rent NT Work­ing with Chil­dren Clear­ance OCHRE card
  • Min 5 years broad nurs­ing expe­ri­ence post reg­is­tra­tion and 3 years work­ing in a pri­ma­ry health relat­ed field in a remote con­text, with advanced clin­i­cal skills and com­pe­ten­cies applic­a­ble to remote set­tings (includ­ing the abil­i­ty to triage, work inde­pen­dent­ly and par­tic­i­pate in emer­gency calls and First Response)
