The Cancer Clinical Lead plays an important role in improving cancer outcomes for Aboriginal people in our community. This position provides clinical leadership and expertise across the cancer care pathway, including screening, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and follow-up.

About us

The Broome Region­al Abo­rig­i­nal Med­ical Ser­vice (BRAMS) is an Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trolled Health Ser­vice which has been car­ing for the Broome com­mu­ni­ty for more than 45 years. When we first opened our doors in 1978, BRAMS was the first remote Abo­rig­i­nal Med­ical Ser­vice in West­ern Australia.

We deliv­er com­pre­hen­sive, holis­tic and cul­tur­al­ly respon­sive pri­ma­ry health care, NDIS, Aged Care and Com­mu­ni­ty Ser­vices to more than 6,500 Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander peo­ple in the Broome region.

About the role

The Can­cer Clin­i­cal Lead plays an impor­tant role in improv­ing can­cer out­comes for Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple in our com­mu­ni­ty. This posi­tion pro­vides clin­i­cal lead­er­ship and exper­tise across the can­cer care path­way, includ­ing screen­ing, diag­no­sis, treat­ment, sur­vivor­ship and follow-up.

The Can­cer Clin­i­cal Lead coor­di­nates and mon­i­tors patient care, sup­ports patients and fam­i­lies to nav­i­gate the health sys­tem, and works close­ly with the Abo­rig­i­nal Can­cer Sup­port Offi­cer for prac­ti­cal and emo­tion­al support.

Work­ing with­in the BRAMS Mod­el of Care and Qual­i­ty Care Frame­work, the Can­cer Clin­i­cal Lead leads ini­tia­tives to increase can­cer screen­ing rates and ear­ly diag­no­sis, builds the capac­i­ty of clin­i­cians, and part­ners with the Health Pro­mo­tion Team to devel­op rel­e­vant can­cer edu­ca­tion and aware­ness activities. 

This posi­tion also works in part­ner­ship with hos­pi­tals, spe­cial­ists and oth­er ser­vices to strength­en refer­ral path­ways and address bar­ri­ers to care for patients and families.

Ben­e­fits

About you

To be suc­cess­ful in this role, you will need to address the fol­low­ing selec­tion criteria:

  • Cur­rent reg­is­tra­tion with AHPRA as a Reg­is­tered Nurse or Abo­rig­i­nal Health Practitioner 
  • Cur­rent Aus­tralian driver’s licence 
  • Expe­ri­ence work­ing with­in an Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trolled Health Ser­vice or sim­i­lar setting 
  • Strong inter­per­son­al, ver­bal and writ­ten com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills with the abil­i­ty to com­mu­ni­cate effec­tive­ly with indi­vid­u­als and groups 
  • Abil­i­ty to work both inde­pen­dent­ly and col­lab­o­ra­tive­ly as part of a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team 
  • Com­mit­ment to work­ing with­in the BRAMS Mod­el of Care and Qual­i­ty Care Framework
