We are active­ly recruit­ing Remote Area Nurs­es with exper­tise in Acute Care, Chron­ic Dis­ease, Child Health, and Men’s Health to join our ded­i­cat­ed, mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary teams.

As a Remote Area Nurse, you will deliv­er high-qual­i­ty, evi­dence-based care to remote com­mu­ni­ties across East Arn­hem Land. Your role will go beyond clin­i­cal prac­tice, mak­ing a mean­ing­ful impact through.

  • Health Edu­ca­tion & Pre­ven­tion – Lead pro­grams focused on Chron­ic Dis­ease, Child Health, and Rheumat­ic Heart Dis­ease, pro­mot­ing long-term com­mu­ni­ty wellness.
  • Com­mu­ni­ty Advo­ca­cy – Sup­port vac­ci­na­tion pro­grams and health ini­tia­tives that improve over­all out­comes for the region.
  • Empow­er­ment & Lead­er­ship – Men­tor and guide Abo­rig­i­nal Health Prac­ti­tion­ers (AHPs) and stu­dents, fos­ter­ing the next gen­er­a­tion of health­care professionals.

All suc­cess­ful appli­cants will have access to a range of ben­e­fits, including:

  • A com­pet­i­tive casu­al hourly rate of $81.88 – $87.97
  • Ful­ly sub­si­dized hous­ing and electricity
  • Flights Pro­vid­ed
  • Oppor­tu­ni­ty for on-call and over­time payments
  • Abil­i­ty to salary pack­age up to $15,900 per annum plus a fur­ther $2,650 per annum on Meals and Entertainment
  • 11.5% Super­an­nu­a­tion
  • Post grad­u­ate allowance at 2% of hourly rate (sub­ject to eligibility)
  • Freight allowance of $114.40 per fortnight

About Miwatj

Miwatj Health is an inde­pen­dent Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty-Con­trolled Health Ser­vice. Estab­lished in 1992, we’re com­mit­ted to secur­ing qual­i­ty health care ser­vices across the East Arn­hem and enabling Yolŋu pow­ered com­mu­ni­ty health and well­be­ing. Miwatj pro­vides cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate, com­pre­hen­sive pri­ma­ry health care to over 6,000 remote Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander res­i­dents across 3 East Arn­hem wards. With a Head Office in Nhu­lun­buy, Miwatj also man­ages a Cor­po­rate Office in Dar­win, 7 fixed clin­ics across the East Arn­hem region, and ded­i­cat­ed out­reach teams who trav­el to 3 addi­tion­al locations.

Essen­tial Requirements

This role will see you work­ing in a remote Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ty. All appli­cants must have an under­stand­ing of and com­mit­ment to Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trol, self-deter­mi­na­tion, and the issues faced by Yolŋu peo­ple liv­ing in remote set­tings. To apply, please ensure you have a cur­rent Reg­is­tra­tion and Prac­tic­ing Cer­tifi­cate as Reg­is­tered Nurse through AHPRA; a cur­rent Remote Emer­gency Care Course cer­tifi­cate and/​or Advanced Life Sup­port cer­tifi­cate; a cur­rent accred­it­ed immu­ni­sa­tion cer­tifi­cate (recog­nised in the NT); a Remote Phar­ma­cother­a­peu­tic Cer­tifi­cate (or equiv­a­lent); man­u­al driver’s license; and 35 years post-grad­u­ate expe­ri­ence with advanced clin­i­cal skills and com­pe­ten­cies applic­a­ble to remote set­tings (includ­ing the abil­i­ty to triage, work inde­pen­dent­ly, and par­tic­i­pate in after­hours emer­gency calls and First Response).
