We’re on the look­out for a Direc­tor of Nurs­ing who isn’t afraid of chal­lenge, thrives in unpre­dictabil­i­ty, and can bring strong clin­i­cal lead­er­ship to the front­line of remote health­care in Aurukun, a fierce­ly proud Indige­nous com­mu­ni­ty on the west­ern coast of Cape York.

📍Where is Aurukun?

Aurukun is home to around 1,300 res­i­dents and five clan groups of the Wik and Kugu peo­ples. Life here is raw, real, and steeped in cul­ture. But let’s be hon­est — it’s also tough. Social com­plex­i­ty, remote­ness, staffing gaps, and the need for strong com­mu­ni­ty rela­tion­ships make this one of the most chal­leng­ing and crit­i­cal Direc­tor of Nurs­ing roles in the state.

It’s not for every­one. But for the right per­son, this will be the most pro­fes­sion­al­ly reward­ing role of your career.

✈️Your mis­sion (if you choose to accept it):

• Pro­vide vis­i­ble, hands-on clin­i­cal lead­er­ship across pri­ma­ry and emer­gency care
• Steer the ship (some­times through stormy weath­er — lit­er­al­ly and figuratively)
• Men­tor and sup­port a small but mighty team
• Work in part­ner­ship with Tra­di­tion­al Own­ers, Elders, and ser­vice stakeholders
• Bal­ance the chaos with calm

🤝About you:

• Reg­is­tered Nurse with cur­rent AHPRA registration
• Proven expe­ri­ence in remote, rur­al or resource-lim­it­ed settings
• Skilled at man­ag­ing high-stress sit­u­a­tions with pro­fes­sion­al­ism and grace
• Cul­tur­al­ly aware, deeply respect­ful, and ready to lis­ten and learn
