The Role:

  • Lead and man­age the opti­mal oper­a­tion of our bed-based Men­tal Health Ser­vices across North and North West Tasmania. 
  • Pro­vide clin­i­cal lead­er­ship to staff and man­age­r­i­al over­sight for des­ig­nat­ed ser­vices in your port­fo­lio.
  • Deliv­er high-lev­el advice on clin­i­cal stan­dards, edu­ca­tion, and com­plex ser­vice issues. 
  • Dri­ve strate­gic direc­tion for nurs­ing ser­vices, pro­fes­sion­al stan­dards, and qual­i­ty of care.
  • Build strong part­ner­ships with inter­nal and exter­nal stake­hold­ers to enhance inte­gra­tion and out­comes.
  • Cham­pi­on con­tin­u­ous qual­i­ty improve­ment and client safe­ty initiatives. 
  • Con­tribute to ser­vice devel­op­ment, pol­i­cy review, and change man­age­ment as part of the lead­er­ship team. 
  • Progress the imple­men­ta­tion of the Statewide Men­tal Health Ser­vices Strate­gic Pri­or­i­ties.
  • Sup­port our com­pli­ance against the Nation­al Safe­ty and Qual­i­ty Health Ser­vice Stan­dards.


Why Tas­ma­nia:


The Depart­ment of Health Tas­ma­nia over­sees var­i­ous hos­pi­tals across the state, includ­ing the Roy­al Hobart Hos­pi­tal, Launce­s­ton Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, North­west Region­al Hos­pi­tal, and Mersey Com­mu­ni­ty Hos­pi­tal, as well as dis­trict hos­pi­tals and ambu­lance ser­vices. Addi­tion­al­ly, it pro­vides com­mu­ni­ty health, men­tal health, and pri­ma­ry health­care ser­vices to the Tas­man­ian com­mu­ni­ty through more than 300 sites.

You will need:

  • An in-depth knowl­edge and under­stand­ing of con­tem­po­rary men­tal health nurs­ing prac­tice, includ­ing rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion, Agency poli­cies and ANMC competencies. 
  • Com­pre­hen­sive under­stand­ing of, and expe­ri­ence in, lead­ing and imple­ment­ing con­tem­po­rary, inte­grat­ed, con­sumer focused care across a num­ber of spec­i­fied spe­cial­ist prac­tice settings. 
  • Proven high lev­el expe­ri­ence and abil­i­ty in man­ag­ing human, finan­cial and mate­r­i­al resources includ­ing the capac­i­ty to mea­sure and mon­i­tor out­comes to opti­mise over­all ser­vice effi­cien­cy and effectiveness.

Details of appoint­ment:


Per­ma­nent, full time, day work­er (with on-call) work­ing 76 hours per fort­night, to com­mence as soon as pos­si­ble.

*notwith­stand­ing hours to be nego­ti­at­ed with the suc­cess­ful appli­cant.

Appli­cants should note that, for a peri­od of twelve months from the date of pub­li­ca­tion, this selec­tion process may be used to fill sub­se­quent or sim­i­lar full time, part time, and casu­al vacan­cies.

Loca­tion: Launce­s­ton, Burnie - Tas­ma­nia

Salary: $149,807 per annum. Our Employ­er 12% super­an­nu­a­tion con­tri­bu­tion is on top of this amount.

Salary range is in accor­dance with Nurs­es and Mid­wives (Tas­ma­nia State Ser­vice) Agree­ment 2023.

On-Call, Trav­el and Post­grad­u­ate Qual­i­fi­ca­tion Allowances are in addi­tion to the salary.

Eli­gi­bil­i­ty:


Suc­cess­ful appli­cants will be required to meet the essen­tial cri­te­ria:

Reg­is­tered with the Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Board of Aus­tralia as a Reg­is­tered Nurse and
pos­sess spe­cial­ist ter­tiary grad­u­ate or post grad­u­ate men­tal health/​psychiatric nurs­ing qual­i­fi­ca­tion; or com­plet­ed, pri­or to the trans­fer of nurse edu­ca­tion to the tertiary sec­tor, an accred­it­ed hos­pi­tal based pro­gram that lead to reg­is­tra­tion as a psy­chi­atric nurse by the rel­e­vant nurse reg­u­la­to­ry author­i­ty with­in Aus­tralia, New Zealand, Cana­da or the Unit­ed King­dom.
