Home to approximately 2000 Yarnangu (Ngaanyatjarra people) across 11 unique communities, our council is dedicated to preserving and celebrating our rich heritage spanning over 10,000 years and 250,000 square kilometres.
Established in 1981, the Ngaanyatjarra Council Group (NCG) represents the interests of the Ngaanyatjarra People across the 11 communities in the Central Desert region of Western Australia. Employing in excess of 450 people, NCG provides a wide range of services, including health, utilities, construction, employment, community development, shops, roadhouses, art centres and land services. It is one of the largest and most successful Indigenous organisations in the country.
Our Vision:
Representing the aspirations and interests of our diverse communities, we are dedicated to keeping Yarnangu strong on Country.
The Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and culturally responsive Men’s Sexual Health Nurse to make a meaningful impact on the health and wellbeing of communities across the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Your work will focus on improving access to sexual health care for young men aged 15 – 30, promoting healthy relationships, and reducing the rates of sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and blood-borne viruses (BBVs). You will be instrumental in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating a range of health promotion activities and clinical services that are culturally and contextually appropriate to the Ngaanyatjarra population.
This role includes facilitating men’s engagement in health care through dedicated men’s clinics, supporting Remote Area Nurses in STI/BBV management, and contributing to community education initiatives, including the safe ceremony strategy for Men’s Business. You will also play a key role in strengthening data systems, contributing to reporting and evaluation, and collaborating with internal and external partners to ensure a coordinated and strategic approach to men’s sexual health.
About You:
You are a Male Registered General Nurse with the Nursing or Midwifery Board of Australia, bringing at least three years of relevant experience — ideally in sexual health, BBVs, health promotion, or community development. Your practice is grounded in a strong understanding of the principles of Primary Health Care and the unique health challenges facing Aboriginal communities, particularly in remote and rural settings.
You are skilled in developing, implementing, and evaluating public health or health promotion initiatives, and you bring a solid working knowledge of current best practices in STI and HIV prevention. You thrive in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments and demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Your approach is evidence-based and quality-focused, and you are committed to continuous professional development. You are confident using clinical guidelines relevant to remote sexual and reproductive health, and comfortable working across various IT platforms for documentation and reporting.
A capable and organised professional, you can effectively manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently in challenging settings. You hold a current manual driver’s license, are able to travel by 4WD or light aircraft, and are willing to spend time in remote communities. You also hold the necessary clearances, and may have additional qualifications such as a postgraduate degree in Public Health or Health Promotion, or a Family Planning Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health.
