About Kim­ber­ley Abo­rig­i­nal Med­ical Services

Kim­ber­ley Abo­rig­i­nal Med­ical Ser­vices Ltd (KAMS) serves as a piv­otal Abo­rig­i­nal Com­mu­ni­ty Con­trolled Health Ser­vice (ACCHS) in the Kim­ber­ley region of West­ern Aus­tralia. Estab­lished in 1986, KAMS oper­ates as a coop­er­a­tive, sup­port­ing a net­work of mem­ber ser­vices across var­i­ous towns and remote com­mu­ni­ties. Our mis­sion and vision focus on enhanc­ing the health and well­be­ing of Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple through­out the region, ensur­ing cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate and holis­tic health care.

We pro­vide a com­pre­hen­sive array of ser­vices, includ­ing health pro­mo­tion, social and emo­tion­al well­be­ing pro­grams, and more. KAMS also man­ages the Broome head­space clin­ic and oth­er clin­ics in the com­mu­ni­ty empha­sis­ing our com­mit­ment to qual­i­ty health care for Abo­rig­i­nal communities.

Posi­tion Overview

We have an avail­able 1.6 FTE. This role is being offered on a full time or part time basis.

As a Gen­er­al Prac­ti­tion­er with­in KAMS, you will deliv­er com­pre­hen­sive pri­ma­ry health care ser­vices aligned with best prac­tise stan­dards, par­tic­u­lar­ly with­in the ACCHO Mod­el of Care. You will col­lab­o­rate with a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team to devel­op high-qual­i­ty health ser­vices, focus­ing on con­tin­u­ous improve­ment and inno­va­tion. This role includes trav­el to var­i­ous remote com­mu­ni­ties and active par­tic­i­pa­tion in local health initiatives.

Key Respon­si­bil­i­ties

  • Deliv­er clin­i­cal pri­ma­ry health care ser­vices at remote clin­ic sites and head­space Broome, includ­ing emer­gency care and tele­health clinics.
  • Engage in qual­i­ty assur­ance ini­tia­tives and con­tribute to the improve­ment of clin­i­cal practises.
  • Super­vise and men­tor Gen­er­al Prac­tise Reg­is­trars and junior med­ical staff, fos­ter­ing a sup­port­ive learn­ing environment.
  • Par­tic­i­pate in com­mu­ni­ty health pro­grams and con­tribute to clin­i­cal lead­er­ship with­in the organisation.

Can­di­date Profile

Pre­vi­ous expe­ri­ence work­ing in remote areas or with Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ties is not essen­tial, pro­vid­ing you are a strong com­mu­ni­ca­tor and team play­er, will­ing to work with­in remote Abo­rig­i­nal com­mu­ni­ties and able to pro­vide care to patients in a cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate manner.

Not typ­i­cal GP clin­ics, it is imper­a­tive that you can work effec­tive­ly with­in KAM­S’s pre-exist­ing struc­tures of gov­er­nance as part of a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team of Doc­tors, Abo­rig­i­nal Health Work­ers, Reg­is­tered Nurs­es, Health Pro­mo­tion Work­ers, and a vari­ety of Allied Health Professionals.

The ide­al can­di­date will pos­sess the fol­low­ing qual­i­fi­ca­tions and attributes:

  • Cur­rent AHPRA reg­is­tra­tion with no conditions.
  • Fel­low­ship with the Roy­al Aus­tralian Col­lege of Gen­er­al Prac­ti­tion­ers (FRACGP) or Aus­tralian Col­lege of Rur­al and Remote Med­i­cine (FACR­RM).
  • Expe­ri­ence in man­ag­ing emer­gen­cies in remote set­tings and strong inter­per­son­al skills.
  • Under­stand­ing of Abo­rig­i­nal cul­ture and effec­tive com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills with Abo­rig­i­nal people.

You will also require a valid C” class driver’s licence, Fed­er­al Police Clear­ance, and a cur­rent CPR cer­tifi­cate. Pre­vi­ous expe­ri­ence in the Abo­rig­i­nal health sec­tor and famil­iar­i­ty with mmex soft­ware is desirable.
