About the Ngaany­at­jar­ra Coun­cil
Wel­come to Ngaany­at­jar­ra Lands, a vibrant tapes­try of cul­ture and com­mu­ni­ty nes­tled with­in the vast beau­ty of the Aus­tralian desert. Home to approx­i­mate­ly 2000 Yarnan­gu (Ngaany­at­jar­ra peo­ple) across 11 unique com­mu­ni­ties, our coun­cil is ded­i­cat­ed to pre­serv­ing and cel­e­brat­ing our rich her­itage span­ning over 10,000 years and 250,000 square kilometres.

Estab­lished in 1981, the Ngaany­at­jar­ra Coun­cil Group (NCG) rep­re­sents the inter­ests of the Ngaany­at­jar­ra Peo­ple across the 11 com­mu­ni­ties in the Cen­tral Desert region of West­ern Aus­tralia. Employ­ing in excess of 450 peo­ple, NCG pro­vides a wide range of ser­vices, includ­ing health, util­i­ties, con­struc­tion, employ­ment, com­mu­ni­ty devel­op­ment, shops, road­hous­es, art cen­tres and land ser­vices. It is one of the largest and most suc­cess­ful Indige­nous organ­i­sa­tions in the country.

The Oppor­tu­ni­ty:
Ngaany­at­jar­ra Health Ser­vice (NHS) is offer­ing a unique and reward­ing oppor­tu­ni­ty for a com­mit­ted Med­ical Offi­cer to join our ded­i­cat­ed team deliv­er­ing high-qual­i­ty, cul­tur­al­ly safe pri­ma­ry health care across the Ngaany­at­jar­ra Lands. In this vital role, you will pro­vide front­line clin­i­cal ser­vices at com­mu­ni­ty health cen­tres and the region­al aged care facil­i­ty, work­ing col­lab­o­ra­tive­ly with­in a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team that includes remote area nurs­es, Abo­rig­i­nal Health Prac­ti­tion­ers, vis­it­ing spe­cial­ists, and allied health professionals.

You will con­tribute to a holis­tic, com­mu­ni­ty-informed mod­el of care that address­es a range of health pri­or­i­ties includ­ing chron­ic dis­ease man­age­ment, men­tal health, child and mater­nal health, and aged care. Your respon­si­bil­i­ties will include clin­i­cal con­sul­ta­tions, care plan­ning, con­tribut­ing to Medicare billing through health checks and care arrange­ments, and main­tain­ing com­pre­hen­sive clin­i­cal records using the Com­mu­ni­care system.

As a Med­ical Offi­cer, you’ll also par­tic­i­pate in con­tin­u­ous qual­i­ty improve­ment process­es and con­tribute to the devel­op­ment of evi­dence-based ser­vices through effec­tive use of health data. You’ll be sup­port­ed to main­tain cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate clin­i­cal prac­tices, devel­op strong con­nec­tions with com­mu­ni­ty mem­bers, and con­tribute to the train­ing and super­vi­sion of med­ical stu­dents or reg­is­trars as needed.

This posi­tion is ide­al for a doc­tor who thrives in remote envi­ron­ments, val­ues mean­ing­ful com­mu­ni­ty engage­ment, and is com­mit­ted to deliv­er­ing equi­table, per­son-cen­tred care. It’s a chance to not only advance your pro­fes­sion­al skills but to make a last­ing dif­fer­ence in the health and well­be­ing of Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple in some of the most cul­tur­al­ly rich and geo­graph­i­cal­ly remote regions of Australia.

About You:
You are a ful­ly reg­is­tered med­ical prac­ti­tion­er with AHPRA and bring expe­ri­ence in pri­ma­ry health care, ide­al­ly with a strong under­stand­ing of the unique needs of remote Indige­nous com­mu­ni­ties. You are a clear com­mu­ni­ca­tor, col­lab­o­ra­tive team mem­ber, and are deeply com­mit­ted to cul­tur­al­ly safe, per­son-cen­tered care. Your abil­i­ty to work effec­tive­ly with­in mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary teams helps you con­tribute mean­ing­ful­ly to improved health out­comes for Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple on the Ngaany­at­jar­ra Lands.

Hold­ing Fel­low­ship with either ACR­RM or RACGP is high­ly desir­able, and advanced skills in areas such as obstet­rics, emer­gency med­i­cine, or oth­er rur­al gen­er­al­ist dis­ci­plines would be a sig­nif­i­cant advan­tage. You’re com­fort­able using dig­i­tal health sys­tems (with Com­mu­ni­care expe­ri­ence a plus), and you active­ly sup­port the devel­op­ment of col­leagues and team members.

You hold a cur­rent C‑class driver’s license and have (or are eli­gi­ble to obtain) a WA Work­ing with Chil­dren Check and Nation­al Police Clear­ance. You’re also will­ing and able to trav­el across remote regions by 4WD or light air­craft as part of your com­mit­ment to equi­table health­care access.
