Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Mental Health Registered Nurse. This position requires at least five years’ post graduate experience in Mental Health with demonstrated skills and competencies. With an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities.
Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.
About the Opportunity
The Mental Health Registered Nurse provides specialised support to clients and their families requiring mental health care and to the remote based staff providing care. The position promotes excellence in clinical standards and quality of care and works closely with the broader Primary Health Care (PHC) team.
Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Provide culturally safe Mental Health care for people of all ages in the Katherine West region through direct contact with clients and families or by providing advice to other members of the PHC team.
- Demonstrate a high standard of professional practice and clinical knowledge that incorporates current best practice, education, and research.
- Undertake thorough mental health assessments, risk assessment, emergency support, treatment, and case management services, and a range of therapeutic interventions to support people and their carers affected by mental health conditions.
- Actively promote mental health awareness and engage in primary prevention activities (e.g., health promotion) in partnership with relevant agencies, community organisations, key stakeholders, consumers, and carers.
- Maintain accurate and up to date clinical records in accordance with established information systems and protocols.
