The Role
As the Health Pro­mo­tion School Nurse, you will be part of the mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary PPHC team, based at Nhu­lun­buy High School and oper­at­ing from the Nhu­lun­buy
Com­mu­ni­ty Care Cen­tre. You will work close­ly with stu­dents from both Abo­rig­i­nal and non-Abo­rig­i­nal back­grounds and col­lab­o­rate with Edu­ca­tion staff, Police, Miwatj Health, and oth­er key ser­vice providers.
This is a reward­ing role that sup­ports the phys­i­cal, emo­tion­al, and social well­be­ing of young peo­ple, under­pinned by a strong health pro­mo­tion and pri­ma­ry health care philosophy.

Key Duties

  • Deliv­er school-based health ser­vices and health pro­mo­tion pro­grams, including: 
  1. Cur­ricu­lum-based, age-appro­pri­ate sex­u­al health education 
  2. School immu­ni­sa­tion pro­grams in line with NT Health guidelines 
  3. First Aid train­ing for students 
  • Pro­vide social and emo­tion­al sup­port to stu­dents, refer­ring to SEWB Offi­cers as needed 
  • Con­duct spe­cial­ist clin­i­cal out­reach, health mon­i­tor­ing, and care for stu­dents and their families
  • Offer par­ent­ing sup­port and ear­ly inter­ven­tion strate­gies to sup­port fam­i­ly wellbeing 
  • Con­tribute to youth-focused, school-based health pro­grams aligned with Pri­ma­ry Health Care and Health Pro­mo­tion principles 
  • Pro­vide edu­ca­tion and men­tor­ing to PPHC staff and sup­port pro­fes­sion­al development 
  • Col­lab­o­rate with exter­nal stake­hold­ers to strength­en school– com­mu­ni­ty partnerships

About you

To be suc­cess­ful, appli­cants will have:

  • Cur­rent or eli­gi­ble for reg­is­tra­tion with the Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Board of Australia.
  • Strong clin­i­cal knowl­edge and skills, with excel­lent deci­sion-mak­ing and prob­lem-solv­ing abilities.
  • Abil­i­ty to men­tor and sup­port staff, stu­dents, and grad­u­ates with­in a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary team.
  • Expe­ri­ence in con­tribut­ing to pol­i­cy devel­op­ment and sup­port­ing organ­i­sa­tion­al change.
  • Effec­tive com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills, with the abil­i­ty to han­dle sen­si­tive mat­ters with tact and diplomacy.
  • An under­stand­ing of social and cul­tur­al fac­tors affect­ing health­care pro­vi­sion for Abo­rig­i­nal clients.
