The Depart­ment of Health man­ages the North­ern Ter­ri­to­ry pub­lic health sys­tem, oper­at­ing as one sys­tem across 5 regions, pro­vid­ing the full spec­trum of essen­tial, qual­i­ty health ser­vices, from health pro­mo­tion to pre­ven­tion, treat­ment, reha­bil­i­ta­tion, and pal­lia­tive care across the life course.

As a Nurse Edu­ca­tion Coor­di­na­tor, you pro­vide edu­ca­tion, train­ing, clin­i­cal and sys­tems advice and sup­port to Pri­ma­ry and Pub­lic Health Care clin­i­cians in remote and/​or urban loca­tions in Cen­tral Australia.

This involves col­lab­o­rat­ing in the devel­op­ment and imple­men­ta­tion of edu­ca­tion­al pro­grams to sup­port pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment needs of health­care work­ers and address incon­sis­ten­cies between prac­tice and policy.

Locat­ed in Alice Springs, you will utilise your exten­sive knowl­edge and expe­ri­ence rel­e­vant to remote nurs­ing to sup­port the deliv­ery of excel­lence in nurs­ing and mid­wifery care and men­tor less expe­ri­enced staff to assist in the fur­ther devel­op­ment of their skills and experience.

To be suc­cess­ful, you will be an accom­plished Nurse/​Midwife with a Grad­u­ate Diplo­ma, or equiv­a­lent, and beyond entry to prac­tice cer­tifi­cate, reg­is­tra­tion with the Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Board of Aus­tralia, and advanced clin­i­cal knowl­edge, skills and expe­ri­ence in a rel­e­vant area of nursing/​midwifery sup­port­ed by well-devel­oped clin­i­cal deci­sion
mak­ing.

Demon­strat­ed pro­fi­cien­cy in the under­stand­ing, appli­ca­tion, analy­sis and inter­pre­ta­tion of a pro­fes­sion­al body of knowl­edge and expe­ri­ence con­tribut­ing to the devel­op­ment and imple­men­ta­tion of local/​regional poli­cies. Effec­tive com­mu­ni­ca­tion and inter­per­son­al skills with the abil­i­ty to man­age con­flict and pro­mote coop­er­a­tion is
essen­tial. You will also require a cur­rent man­u­al driver’s licence and the will­ing­ness to trav­el to remote areas by 4WD or light air­craft for nego­ti­at­ed periods.

Suit­able appli­cants that have not com­plet­ed a beyond entry to prac­tice will be offered a 2‑year fixed peri­od to facil­i­tate achiev­ing the certificate.

Alice Springs (or Mparn­twe in Arrernte lan­guage) is the third-largest town in the North­ern Ter­ri­to­ry, with a pop­u­la­tion of approx­i­mate­ly 33,000 peo­ple. The Region has deep spir­i­tu­al ori­gins dat­ing back more than 30,000 years, and an abun­dance of rich
cul­ture and his­to­ry. The town is sur­round­ed by stun­ning nat­ur­al beau­ty, includ­ing the Mac­Don­nell Ranges and the Red Cen­tre Desert. About 450kms down the road is Ulu­ru, a large sand­stone rock for­ma­tion that is a spec­tac­u­lar sight any time of the year.
