The Depart­ment of Health man­ages the North­ern Ter­ri­to­ry pub­lic health sys­tem, oper­at­ing as one sys­tem across 5 regions, pro­vid­ing the full spec­trum of essen­tial, qual­i­ty health ser­vices, from health pro­mo­tion to pre­ven­tion, treat­ment, reha­bil­i­ta­tion, and pal­lia­tive care across the life course

Bark­ly Alco­hol and Oth­er Drugs (AOD) is a spe­cial­ist, nurse-led ser­vice that oper­ates with­in a trau­ma informed prac­tice, harm min­imi­sa­tion mod­el of care, and deliv­ers inpa­tient clin­i­cal liai­son, and out­pa­tient and out­reach ther­a­peu­tic services

As a Clin­i­cal Spe­cial­ist Nurse, you form part of a mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary team con­duct­ing a range of assess­ments, and pro­vide ther­a­peu­tic inter­ven­tions, case man­age­ment and edu­ca­tion pro­grams on issues relat­ing to sub­stance abuse. Using your spe­cial­ist knowl­edge and under­stand­ing of the Volatile Sub­stance Abuse Pre­ven­tion Act and AOD frame­works you will rec­om­mend treat­ment options to staff, clients, and fam­i­ly mem­bers includ­ing oth­er agen­cies and com­mu­ni­ty ser­vices. You will also take account­abil­i­ty for pro­vid­ing sound pro­fes­sion­al advice and for the assess­ment plan­ning, review and eval­u­a­tion of com­pre­hen­sive client care and/​or case man­age­ment. Work­ing col­lab­o­ra­tive­ly with key stake­hold­ers to sup­port the devel­op­ment of con­tem­po­rary mod­els of care and con­tribute to Con­tin­u­ous Qual­i­ty Improve­ment programs.

To be suc­cess­ful you require eli­gi­bil­i­ty for reg­is­tra­tion with the Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Board of Australia,Graduate Cer­tifi­cate beyond entry-to-prac­tice (for ongo­ing employ­ment) and high­ly devel­oped clin­i­cal knowl­edge and skills in a rel­e­vant area of Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery. Demon­strat­ed expe­ri­ence work­ing with patients with com­plex sub­stance abuse needs and sound knowl­edge of rel­e­vant leg­is­la­tion and a cur­rent driver’s licence or abil­i­ty to obtain is essen­tial. In addi­tion, you should have demon­strat­ed knowl­edge and under­stand­ing of Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander cul­ture, fam­i­ly and com­mu­ni­ty struc­tures, with the abil­i­ty to com­mu­ni­cate and work effec­tive­ly in a cul­tur­al­ly safe manner.
