The Team:

The Nurs­ing Direc­tor Crit­i­cal Care Ser­vices is a senior lead­er­ship posi­tion with­in the Launce­s­ton Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal Depart­ment of Medicine.

The Role:

Pro­vide effec­tive lead­er­ship and man­age­ment of nurs­ing staff and ser­vices. With­in Crit­i­cal Care Ser­vices at the Launce­s­ton Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal (LGH), in con­sul­ta­tion with the Direc­tor – Depart­ment of Med­i­cine (DoM).

Lead patient care in an inter-pro­fes­sion­al envi­ron­ment to achieve the defined objec­tives of Crit­i­cal Care Stream with­in the DoM.

The Nurs­ing Direc­tor — Crit­i­cal Care will have a col­lab­o­ra­tive work­ing rela­tion­ship with the Nurs­ing Direc­tor Acute Med­i­cine and Nurs­ing Direc­tor Sub Acute and Ambu­la­to­ry Ser­vices. This Col­lab­o­ra­tive rela­tion­ship will ensure the oper­a­tional plans of each DoM stream are aligned.

The Nurs­ing Direc­tor — Crit­i­cal Care reports to the Exec­u­tive Direc­tor Clin­i­cal Oper­a­tions and Performance.

  1. In con­junc­tion with the Exec­u­tive Direc­tor of Oper­a­tions and Per­for­mance pro­vide lead­er­ship and sup­port on accred­i­ta­tion, patient flow.
  2. Direct the oper­a­tional activ­i­ties of des­ig­nat­ed clin­i­cal ser­vices con­sis­tent with Hos­pi­tals North objec­tives and pro­vide effec­tive lead­er­ship, coor­di­na­tion and direc­tion for the man­age­ment of the human, finan­cial and mate­r­i­al resources to achieve these objectives.
  3. Assist in the devel­op­ment and appli­ca­tion of clin­i­cal man­age­ment poli­cies, pro­to­cols and guide­lines that will enable the eval­u­a­tion of ser­vices against best prac­tice standards.
  4. Pro­vide lead­er­ship and direc­tion in the areas of research/​education, con­tin­u­ous qual­i­ty improve­ment and inno­v­a­tive redesign.
  5. Man­age clin­i­cal and cor­po­rate risk with­in the estab­lished frame­work whilst ensur­ing a safe envi­ron­ment for patients and staff.
  6. Sup­port Nurs­ing Unit Man­agers, Nurse Prac­ti­tion­ers and Nurse Edu­ca­tors to facil­i­tate a range of ini­tia­tives to enhance the qual­i­ty of patient care in all areas of responsibility.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, full time, day work­er posi­tion, work­ing 76 hours per fort­night, com­menc­ing as soon as pos­si­ble until 1 Feb­ru­ary 2026.

Appli­cants should note that, for a peri­od of twelve months from the date of pub­li­ca­tion, this selec­tion process may be used to fill sub­se­quent or sim­i­lar full time, part time, and casu­al vacancies.

Salary: $159,884 per annum. Our Employ­er 12% super­an­nu­a­tion con­tri­bu­tion is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accor­dance with Nurs­es and Mid­wives (Tas­ma­nia State Ser­vice) Agree­ment 2023.

In addi­tion, the fol­low­ing allowances cal­cu­lat­ed on the salaried incre­men­tal point may be available: 

  • Post Grad­u­ate Allowance of up to 10% based on qual­i­fi­ca­tion type
