The Spencer Clinic is a dynamic, contemporary, evidence based mental health team. The unit includes 2 psychiatrists, 2 Senior medical officers, an RMO, a social worker, a psychologist and a great team of nurses and support people.

The Team:

  • There is a focus on ongo­ing pro­fes­sion­al development
  • You will be priv­i­leged to walk along­side our con­sumers, their friends and fam­i­lies in their recov­ery journey.
  • The next two years will see the open­ing of a new men­tal health unit at Burnie Hospital.

You Will Need:

  • Com­pas­sion and empathy.
  • Be an effec­tive com­mu­ni­ca­tor able to estab­lish ther­a­peu­tic rela­tion­ships with con­sumers and their friends and families.
  • Be self-aware and use reflec­tive practice.
  • Be inter­est­ed in peo­ple from all walks of life and have a non-judge­men­tal attitude.
  • Have excel­lent inter­per­son­al skills includ­ing active listening.
  • Have the abil­i­ty to remain calm and use de-esca­la­tion skills.
  • knowl­edge of the prin­ci­ples of nurs­ing care and their appli­ca­tion to a men­tal health/​psychiatric nurs­ing set­ting and the abil­i­ty to devel­op clin­i­cal skills rel­e­vant to the des­ig­nat­ed area.
  • Knowl­edge of the legal require­ments, rel­e­vant poli­cies, and the pro­ce­dures of the prac­tice setting.
  • An under­stand­ing of the role of the Aus­tralian Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Coun­cil (ANMC) com­pe­ten­cies, the Nurs­ing Act and the Nurs­ing and Mid­wifery Board of Aus­tralia (NMBA) in the reg­u­la­tion of nurs­ing practice.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, part time, shift work­er (ful­ly rota­tion­al) posi­tion, work­ing 64 hours per fort­night, com­menc­ing as soon as pos­si­ble to 20 July 2027.

*notwith­stand­ing hours to be nego­ti­at­ed with the suc­cess­ful applicant.

Appli­cants should note that, for a peri­od of twelve months from the date of pub­li­ca­tion, this selec­tion process may be used to fill sub­se­quent or sim­i­lar full time, part time, and casu­al vacancies.

Loca­tion: North West, Tasmania

Salary: $78,179 to $105,995 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employ­er 12% super­an­nu­a­tion con­tri­bu­tion is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accor­dance with Nurs­es and Mid­wives (Tas­ma­nia State Ser­vice) Agree­ment 2023.

Access to the Grade 4 salary range $99,455- $105,995 is sub­ject to suc­cess­ful appli­ca­tion for pro­gres­sion to Grade 4 In addi­tion, the fol­low­ing allowances cal­cu­lat­ed on the salaried incre­men­tal point may be available:

  • Post Grad­u­ate Allowance of up to 10% based on qual­i­fi­ca­tion type
