The role of the Registered Nurse (Dialysis) is to deliver haemodialysis on a 2:1 patient to nurse ratio to patients with complex needs in a community context and contribute to the management of dialysis units under the direction of Site or Regional Coordinators.

POSI­TION SUMMARY

The role of the Reg­is­tered Nurse (Dial­y­sis) is to deliv­er haemodial­y­sis on a 2:1 patient to nurse ratio to patients with com­plex needs in a com­mu­ni­ty con­text and con­tribute to the man­age­ment of dial­y­sis units under the direc­tion of Site or Region­al Coor­di­na­tors. Key respon­si­bil­i­ties include holis­tic care and chron­ic dis­ease man­age­ment to sup­port renal patients and their fam­i­lies. This posi­tion super­vis­es and sup­ports oth­er staff in accor­dance with the Scope of Prac­tice – Frame­work for Nurs­es and Midwives.

Our mis­sion is to improve the lives of peo­ple with renal fail­ure, reunite fam­i­lies and reduce the inci­dence of kid­ney dis­ease in our com­mu­ni­ties. We are run by Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple for Abo­rig­i­nal peo­ple and work to pro­vide cul­tur­al­ly appro­pri­ate dial­y­sis ser­vices in remote com­mu­ni­ties, help­ing peo­ple to get home to coun­try and family.

STAN­DARD REQUIREMENTS

  • Demon­strate a cour­te­ous and respect­ful man­ner and com­mu­ni­cate effec­tive­ly with inter­nal and exter­nal stakeholders.
  • Demon­strate cul­tur­al aware­ness and knowl­edge of cul­tur­al safe­ty and Indige­nous com­mu­ni­ty control. 
  • Main­tain con­fi­den­tial­i­ty of infor­ma­tion about clients, oth­er staff mem­bers or com­mu­ni­ty members. 
  • Work to achieve stan­dards of best prac­tice and pro­mote con­tin­u­ous qual­i­ty improvement. 
  • Demon­strate safe work prac­tices and pro­mote a safe work environment.

FUNC­TIONS (Key Responsibilities)

  • Pro­vide opti­mal dial­y­sis treat­ment and holis­tic care with­in the scope of prac­tice of a Reg­is­tered Nurse.
  • Work effec­tive­ly with­in a team with a focus on patient care at all times.
  • Devel­op and main­tain pos­i­tive rela­tion­ships with­in the com­mu­ni­ty, and engage with com­mu­ni­ty strength­en­ing activities.
  • Man­age a diverse work­load, using and main­tain­ing assets and resources effectively.
  • Par­tic­i­pate in qual­i­ty and gov­er­nance activ­i­ties, report­ing as required.
  • Act as a resource and men­tor, encour­ag­ing and sup­port­ing all new staff.
  • Main­tain clin­i­cal com­pe­ten­cy in haemodial­y­sis and Basic Life Support.
  • Pro­mote a safe work envi­ron­ment in accor­dance with leg­isla­tive require­ments, adheres to Work Health Safe­ty guide­lines, and reports all inci­dents and near misses.
  • Oth­er duties as required with­in trained capa­bil­i­ty and classification.

KEY COM­PE­TEN­CIES (SELEC­TION CRITERIA)

Essen­tial:

  1. Qual­i­fi­ca­tion and reg­is­tra­tion with the Aus­tralian Health Prac­ti­tion­er Reg­u­la­tion Author­i­ty (AHPRA)
  2. A min­i­mum of 2 years Haemodial­y­sis nurs­ing experience
  3. Cer­ti­fi­ca­tion of Basic Life Sup­port (BLS)
  4. Work­ing with Chil­dren Clearance
  5. Will­ing­ness and capac­i­ty to work in a cross-cul­tur­al environment.
  6. Will­ing­ness to work under the direc­tion of Indige­nous leadership.
  7. Abil­i­ty to work col­lab­o­ra­tive­ly in a mul­ti-dis­ci­pli­nary environment.
  8. A knowl­edge and com­mit­ment to Qual­i­ty Improvement.
  9. Knowl­edge of cur­rent Work Health Safe­ty Legislation.
  10. Recent (less than 6 months old) Nation­al Crim­i­nal His­to­ry Check.
  11. Able to obtain a NDIS Work­er Screen­ing Clearance.
  12. Covid Vac­ci­na­tion (2 jabs + 1 booster).
  13. Unre­strict­ed dri­ver license to be able to dri­ve in the NT.

Desir­able:

  1. 4WD / Man­u­al dri­ving experience.
  2. Post grad­u­ate qual­i­fi­ca­tions in Renal Nurs­ing or work­ing towards the same.
  3. Expe­ri­ence work­ing for an Indige­nous organisation.
  4. Indige­nous lan­guage skills.
