Senior Maternal and Women's Health Advisor

Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Senior Maternal and Women's Health Advisor. This position is well suited to someone who is a Registered Midwife and/or Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA) With a minimum of three years’ experience in midwifery and maternal health. Who has an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities.
Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia.

About the Opportunity
The Senior Maternal and Women’s Health Advisor will oversee the Maternal and Women’s Health program at KWHB, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based antenatal, postnatal, and women’s health services. This position provides clinical leadership, strategic direction, and program coordination for the maternal and women’s health team while working closely with KWHB clinics, external specialists, and partner organisations to enhance service delivery.
The role is based in Darwin or Katherine (0.6 FTE) with regular travel to KWHB communities to support program implementation, staff training, and quality improvement activities.
Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
- Provide clinical oversight for maternal and women’s health services across KWHB, ensuring care aligns with evidence-based best practices.
- Ensure effective care coordination for women with complex medical or social care needs, working collaboratively with primary health care teams, hospitals, and specialist services
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of strategic priorities for maternal and women’s health across KWHB.
- Ensure all maternal health programs are culturally safe, community-driven, and aligned with KWHB’s commitment to Aboriginal self-determination in health care.
- Support training, mentoring, and professional development for midwives, nurses, and Aboriginal Health Practitioners in maternal and women’s health.
- Promote a multi-disciplinary approach to decision-making and patient care.
- Liaise with regional hospitals, Maternity Group Practice, and external agencies to ensure continuity of care for pregnant women and new mothers.
- Engage with Aboriginal communities, traditional owners, and local organisations to ensure services remain responsive to community needs.
- Travel to KWHB communities on a regular basis to support program implementation, staff training, and community engagement.
The successful candidate will enjoy an attractive remuneration of HCC1 $132,266 — NP $145,402 (negotiated based on skills, qualifications and experience) PLUS super and a range of benefits, which include:
