The Roy­al Fly­ing Doc­tor Ser­vice (Queens­land Sec­tion) (RFDS) is seek­ing an expe­ri­enced Senior Men­tal Health Clin­i­cian to join our Child and Par­ent­ing Sup­port Ser­vice. In this role, you’ll have the oppor­tu­ni­ty to sup­port chil­dren and fam­i­lies in a way that aligns with their unique needs and your pro­fes­sion­al exper­tise.

The Child and Par­ent­ing Sup­port Ser­vice pro­vides spe­cialised men­tal health sup­port to chil­dren, par­ents, and car­ers in Nor­man­ton, Croy­don, and Karum­ba. In this role, you will deliv­er 1:1 clin­i­cal coun­selling, includ­ing play-based ther­a­py for young peo­ple and their par­ents, address­ing chal­lenges such as stress, grief, and trau­ma. You’ll also pro­vide psy­cho-edu­ca­tion­al ses­sions for school staff to bet­ter sup­port chil­dren deal­ing with anx­i­ety and oth­er learn­ing dif­fi­cul­ties. As the sole RFDS clin­i­cian in the com­mu­ni­ty, you will play a vital role in pro­mot­ing well­be­ing, col­lab­o­rat­ing with oth­er providers to ensure com­pre­hen­sive care, and build­ing strong part­ner­ships to enhance the qual­i­ty of ser­vice deliv­ery.

RFDS Senior Men­tal Health Clin­i­cians have:

  • Reg­is­tra­tion with AHPRA or mem­ber­ship of the AASW
  • A qual­i­fi­ca­tion in Psy­chol­o­gy, Social Work (Accred­it­ed with AASW), Occu­pa­tion­al Ther­a­py or Men­tal Health Nurs­ing (Suit­able for Men­tal Health credentialing)
  • Post-grad­u­ate expe­ri­ence of at least 5 years in a rel­e­vant clin­i­cal field
  • Demon­strat­ed expe­ri­ence in brief inter­ven­tions, ther­a­peu­tic coun­selling, case man­age­ment, and men­tal health edu­ca­tion with chil­dren and young people
  • An under­stand­ing of issues impact­ing Abo­rig­i­nal and Tor­res Strait Islander health and wellbeing
  • The abil­i­ty to work autonomously
  • Con­fi­dence to apply exper­tise and use cre­ativ­i­ty and inno­va­tion in ther­a­peu­tic services

Can­di­dates are required to hold a cur­rent, unre­strict­ed Aus­tralian dri­ver’s licence. Before the appoint­ment, you will be required to pro­vide cer­ti­fied copies of qualifications/​registrations and evi­dence of immu­ni­ty or vac­ci­na­tion against vac­cine-pre­ventable dis­eases.
