Our Remote Area Nurse or RAN Certification process has established a minimum standard for professional practice. The certification process aspires to improve remote healthcare, provide professional recognition of the specialty of remote area nursing and help to quantify a large amount of educational preparation.

CRANAplus members are provided with the certification process for free as part of their membership.

What is RAN Certification?

RAN Certification is a self and peer assessment to evidence that a remote area nurse meets the minimum essential requirements to be a safe provider of remote health care in isolated, rural and outback areas. Certification lasts for three years from the date of issuing.

How Was It Developed?

We are committed to excellence when it comes to delivering high quality, practical and relevant programs and services, that build the capacity of the remote nurse workforce for the provision of competent, safe and quality remote and isolated health care. The Professional Standards of Remote Practice for nurses are the foundation from which the minimum standards are built. The entire process has been developed in consultation with an industry-wide expert advisory group.

The Certification Process

During your RAN application, you will need to go through nine standards and provide the requisite answers, upload the evidence and/or indicate that you have read the links. The process can be completed over multiple sessions. One of our CRANAplus professional officers will review the submitted application. Once deemed complete you will be automatically issued with a three-year certificate of remote area nurse certification.
