Mirii (Star)
Designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners and Workers, the Mirii (Star) course upskills participants in the use of local clinical care manuals and guidelines such as CARPA and PCCM to respond to common patient presentations and undertake systematic patient assessment, documentation and handover.

Then the CRANAplus Mirii (Star): a course for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners/Workers is for you.
The CRANAplus Mirii course is based on current clinical guidelines and best practice principles. The course provides remote health clinicians/workforce with skills to effectively use clinical care manuals/guidelines (e.g. CARPA, PCCM) in response to common patient presentations.
There is particular focus on early recognition of the deteriorating patient, appropriate assessment, treatment, management and escalation in the context of a remote and isolated setting.

The Mirii course is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners/Workers who use clinical care manuals/guidelines (e.g. CARPA, PCCM) in response to common patient presentations.
- Course delivery

The course is flexible, interactive and delivered in face-to-face environment and covers both acute and chronic disease presentations.
Consideration is given to the limited resources available in the remote and isolated setting. Multiple practice opportunities enable clinicians to repeat and develop their clinical skills in a simulated environment, all under the guidance of highly experienced instructors.
The CRANAplus Mirii course consists of a face to face workshop inclusive of presentations, skill stations and practical based scenarios that look at common clinic presentations in the remote health setting and includes:
A basic familiarisation of local manuals and using them to perform a medical consultation and access the correct treatment protocol.
- Describing and using a systematic patient assessment
approach using Primary and Secondary Survey and the local manual guidelines. - Understanding the importance of good clinical
documentation, verbal and written handover and being able to refer patients appropriately.
- On successful completion of this course, clinicians will be able to:

- Understand the importance of early recognition of a deteriorating patient using the ABCDE approach
- Perform a systematic assessment process and understand escalation needs and pathways available
- Consider the relevant presentation and be guided by outcomes of assessment in treatment and management based on local manual/guidelines
- Demonstrate accurate documentation and communicate a clear, concise handover of findings and interventions using the ISBAR approach
- Understand the legal and ethical considerations of decision making.

Given the remote location of many of our courses, we are sometimes restricted to Vegetarian and Gluten Free dietary options. While we always supply fresh food and fruit, particular foods may not be easily accessed in remote areas. Should you have quite specific restrictions we encourage you to bring some basics and then pick and choose from the fresh food offered on the day. You should also inform us of any allergies you may have so we can advise the caterer and be aware of the situation.
